The Chainlink

The ride meets at 10 am at the Wicker Park fountain (NOT Bum Island), 1425 N. Damen,

departing at 10:15.

This is a roughly 100-mile tour of oddball locations around the edge of Chicago. The ride moves at about 10 MPH with plenty of stops for sightseeing, snacking and skinny-dipping.

Here's a write-up that will give you an idea of what to expect: http://tinyurl.com/perimeterride

No pre-registration needed or ride fee, but a $10 donation to the Greater Chicago Food Depository is requested on the day of the ride.

The ride ends some time after midnight at The Handlebar.

Actually I said the FSC was the last time I'd lead one of the rides I've lead every year for a long time, but part of the reason is to make room for new ride ideas like the CMPR.

Sounds tremendous; hope this happens.

But stay tuned for a possible Chicago Metropolitan Perimeter Ride in August.

Looks like people are RSVPing for the 2011 ride...

I will gladly organize the ride. My August is looking light, scheduling wise, so I'd have the time to meet with John and talk about what needs to be done in preparation! John...please feel free to email me here or hit me up directly at gregoryeddavies at gmail dot com if you want to talk about what I'd need to know to plan. Thanks!!!

Greg! I'm so psyched. I can't think of anyone who would be more appropriate to take on the perimeter ride torch. It has always been my favorite ride of the year.

Has a date been decided on for the possible Perimeter Ride?

Since the ride usually uses at a least a portion of the Major Taylor Trail, I'll be watching for the date so that I can notify the park district and the ward offices that a ride will be happening on the trail.  I've done that the last couple of years so that the trail is swept as close as possible to the date to minimize the amount of broken glass.  I'd rather see you all have a better ride on the south side - fewer flat tires, more fun.

Hey, all--I just set up a Planning Group for a 2012 ride, pending approval.  http://www.thechainlink.org/group/perimeter-ride-2012-planning-group

I love the Perimeter ride so much!  Not just 'cause the ride is awesome, but also because the CTA bail-out option makes a lot of people who'd never try such a thing feel confident enough to try a century in the first place.  It was my first century, and going in to it I was only half convinced I'd make it to the end.  When it was over and I realized it hadn't crippled me, I wanted more!

It's kinda late in the season to just toss this together for August, I think.  Chuck A Muc is pulling for a date in October, and the cooler weather certainly appeals to me.  Also, we don't want to step on the fantastic multi-day superperimeter ride John's putting together.  Weigh in on the new planning group page linked above once it's approved and we'll start nailing down details before we make it an event page we can pass along to fans of this ride old and new.

Gods Peed!
