The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

We are not alone!

Oregon has a marked bike lane almost all the going south on Hiway 101, on the west side

Along the way, I came across this:

No, I didn't report it - I didn't know where to!

We are EXTREMELY NOT ALONE. I'm sure EVERYWHERE there's a clearly marked bike lane there are violators.

Last month my wife and I road-tripped in California, spending a lot of time on Pacific Coast Highway and 101, both of which have a surprisingly HUGE amount of bike laneage.. I saw plenty of violators on both highways.

Me gusta!

Morning folks. Doing a grocery loop near north side northbound Milwaukee/Elston & southbound via Clybourn. I do enjoy (?) seeing the SCR pickup vans (wheelchair, handicapped....) ignoring rules of the road. Not sure if SCR is city dept. or 3rd party contractors. I know at least one of their garages is on the near west side. I travel by when I'm heading to Garfield Conservatory or towards Oak Park.

Something about a wheelchair pickup vehicle - differently abled and all that goes with that - blocking traffic - kind of wild. SCR - I think it may be the same driver same route that regularly blocks the separated (concrete) lane down by the Clybourn/North Ave. intersection. I do mean totally blocks - leaves no gap between the van & the start of the seperated lane. SCR # 4014 - IL plates 16236 PT.

Three photos - cropped for # detail.

Did you call the 800 number?

Now that's an interesting idea. How about a "How am I parking" 800 number hot line? The call will alert our crack swat team, who will quickly swoop down upon the offending vehicle and administer summary vigilante justice in the blink of an eye. We need a terrifying logo and a fierce mascot to make this work.
