I take the Divvy to work and back on days when there are rumors of rain not because I am worried about myself melting but because I have no option but to keep my bike outdoors during the day while I work.  Anyway, what I am writing about is the pain in the tuccus caused by the Divvy seat.  I can barely make one trip (forty minutes) without feeling a rash later on in the groin area.  Two to three trips on consecutive days will be too much.  Anyone else have that problem?  Or am I the only one who didn't evolve the Divvy mutation?  In my case I am probably spoiled with the comfiest seat on my own bike, the Spongy Wonder which is like sitting on a large eraser and is a hornless seat, to boot, so groin not affected.  I tried ordering a saddle pad for the Divvy a year ago but it was too small so I returned it - the Divvy seats are bigger than most bike seats.  If anyone knows of a seat pad for the Divvy seat, let us know, would you?  Or any other solutions.  I do wear chamois pad shorts for my Divvy trips, and they do help slightly, but only slightly.

Ouch! Here are some possible causes/solutions...

Have you tried chamois creme? That can really help reduce friction.

Also, take an extra shower when you get home because sometimes it is bacteria-related - especially with the warm weather.

It probably goes without saying but don't wear underwear under the chamois because that causes friction and undoes the wonderful stuff the chamois is trying to do. All though, sometimes when a seat is too cushy, the chamois pad and the seat cancel each other out.

Hope that helps! Hope you find comfort. I love your commitment to riding a Divvy while you trouble-shoot the saddle challenges.

Wearing underwear is the worst thing you can do. Also do not wear your chamois shorts all day, once you are at work change into normal underwear. Try to find a place to air out your shorts during the day so they have a change to dry as keeping them in a garbage will only increase the bacteria thing. As far as the Divvy seat goes, try riding further on the nose. Good luck,

Thanks for the extra note Michael. Yes, definitely don't want to wear the chamois all day.

Surprised to see this post--the only problem I've ever had with a Divvy seat is it sliding down when I don't tighten it well enough! Hope Yasmeen's suggestions are helpful.

Thanks both for your recommendations. I will add friction reducing cream under the chamois. I am wearing underwear under the chamois. One of you thought that would add friction. I'll have to give it thought. I would think the seat pressure causes the sore, not the added softening of underwear, plus wearing underwear means I wouldn't have to wash the chamois too often. Can wearing underwear under it really irritate my groin? I would think the sore appears in the side where the padding is not reaching. But I'll think more about that. Thanks all!

2 things - Yes, underwear undoes what a chamois is doing and creates friction so if you don't want a sore, best not to wear underwear with your chamois. Consider the chamois the underwear.

Wash your chamois after every use. Bacteria. You may want to get a few more pairs if you use daily. REI has more options that aren't full bike shorts and can fit nicely under regular shorts or pants. You may want to check those out.

Using just a chamois with chamois cream and then washing the chamois every time will probably solve your sore. Be mindful that bacteria can be an issue that will clog your pores and cause sores.

Good luck!

+1

The seams in underwear create friction.
