Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

Seriously, there's not a single cop in the downtown area that can spend 15 minutes writing $600 worth of tickets?

I agree. Two cops on bikes could have easily corralled the four vehicles here. It's not at all difficult to catch them in the act. Heck, the Tesla driver gave me a sneer, but made no attempt to move. I've photographed, what, over a dozen vehicles in this one location over the course of a few weeks at the same time very day? It's like shooting fish in a barrel.

Unfortunately it seems like they don't give a crap about safety on the street. They could do the same thing with people on their phones. Or with people speeding. Or not yielding to pedestrians.

Really disheartening to see this and the sick attitude of the drivers out there even going so far as the come out of their car in the middle of traffic to beat on a pedestrian who slapped the back panel after almost being run over. Wait, I thought the belligerent cager was in a hurry to make the turn regardless of who's in the way.

Do not try this at home.  I remember seeing biking shirts that had printed on them mud splatter, grease etc. Just a fun visual effect - now if there was a way to drop a pattern of muddy bike tires on cars - maybe it would get the message across to one or two.

I remember seeing in a book where protesting bicyclists brought out a simple line-painting machine and painted bike lanes where they needed them.

Same Bat Time. Same Bat Channel.

Classic.

Every time I see that, I'm tempted to copy the guy in that video from awhile back who'd crash into people parked in the bike lane in NYC and roll up onto their hoods.

As it stands, I ask them WTF they think they're doing 100% of the time, which is about 90% effective in getting them to move.

...except for when you talk to that one murderous guy in a blacked-out SUV who proceeds to chase you all over the neighborhood trying to ram you and screaming death threats at you. But other than that it seems to go well.

Must be the same guy when my elbow hit his side mirror as I tried squeezing through as he was parked in the bike lane. The nut cager chased me down the street trying to run me off the bike lane on Harrison. All just because of a slight adjustment to his side mirror. Sheesh!

I had someone follow me home once, after I took a photo of their car parked in the bike lane. Got saved by being able to head south on the Dearborn PBL, forcing them to go around the block. I was pleased that my building has good security and cameras however.

I rely on turning off my lights and running reds at major intersections, and sometimes even that doesn't work.
