The Chainlink

Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

Nice! Whomever that patrolman was, I trust you thanked him for his service, and I'll thank you for doing so.

Officer "bike lane protector" is there in the AM a couple days per week. Wonder what it is that makes that stretch special...

Would be nice if he could cover some sections of Dearborn south of Wacker.

(BTW, the video of the person stepping into the PBL is hilarious.)

Oh yes, I thanked him alright. He sad he was on foot patrol, so I have to imagine that there are enough scofflaws on the bike path to fill a ticket book.

I was southbound on Dearborn this morning, riding from Kinzie to Adams. I swear the pedestrians have death wishes. One nitwit was simply standing in the southbound lane of the bike path, oblivious to the passing bikes. Oy veh.

I always refer to the bike lanes as traffic lanes. It usually catches the people off guard.

When you say something like "You're standing in the bike lane." they may respond with some sort of BS about bikes not belonging in the street.

But, say something like "You can't stand in the traffic lane."  It describes what the lane really is and catches them off guard. Give it a try next time. :)

That is some Jedi shit. Will definitely say that next time!

I feel it gives bicycles more credibility.

Saw a cop ticketing a taxi driver this morning in the same location as mentioned by the OP. What is going on here??

He said that was his regular beat. I assume there's an apartment/condo nearby, and the taxi drivers use the lane as a staging area. Easy revenue for the city.

Seems like a positive development to me.

After I snapped the pic, the silver Chevy followed me for nearly a half mile shouting out their open passenger window. I couldn't quite make out what they were saying, but I'm sure they were apologizing for being a total d*ck. Be careful out there.

Because, one chevy symbol isn't enough. You have to put another one under the license plate.
