While throngs of shoppers head out on "Black Friday" to chase deals, instead consider visiting your LBS (Local Bike Shop) for your winter riding needs and gift ideas for the cyclists in your life. When you support your LBS, you are directly impacting your local economy and helping contribute to a stable "bicycle economy" made up of store owners, store clerks, mechanics and other jobs. This, in turn, helps continue to foster a community that values bicycling. So simply by "shopping local" you are helping bicycling overall.
I just did a blog post on this and included a list of local bike sh... I thought it'd be interesting to see what shop everyone considered their "LBS."
For me when I'm near my house I go to Glenview Cycle and the Pony Shop and Wheel & Sprocket (formerly Ten 27 and before Turin) in Etown. But I probably do most of my bike shopping at the Bike Lane on Milwaukee.

It's great to have these two fine shops in my cruising range. They complement each other well and all the people involved are knowledgeable and helpful. And nice.
My locals are in California, Michigan and Oregon. Local enough for me. The guys one town away are doing just fine selling overpriced Pinarellos and S-Works bikes to handsomely compensated "one percenters". I do make sure to spread the love around in my local counties with big purchases and small but they only get my money for doing something more than simply being in close proximity to my living quarters; they have to have what I want and, as well, treat me as a customer.

Rudy's, The Bike Lane, and sometimes Kozy's on N Milwaukee but hopefully never again.
Beverly Bike & Ski, 9121 S. Western - also nice for x-c ski and snowshoe rental
Until now, Rapid Transit has been my go-to place for my folding bike and recumbent. I guess I'll try Kozy's for the folder.
Joe Reichert runs a good shop in Niles (Amlings) specializing in recumbents. I guess I'll need to make the long trek from time to time. Not a lot of 'bent expertise in the city without Rapid Transit. :(
