Blood Bikes in Boulder to Protest the Removal of Buffered Bike Lanes on Folsom Street

Supporters of the project have complained that the city sacrificed bicyclist safety by undoing the protected bike lanes.

The protected bicycle lanes were installed earlier this summer as part of the city's Living Lab Pilot Program to improve safety for cyclists and drivers at the cost of $170,000 for taxpayers.

But amid concerns about traffic and impact on local business with winter approaching, city staff last month recommended the project be rolled back.

When most bike lanes result in an increase in local businesses, it's a shame they removed the lanes so quickly. While this protest is dramatic, given the increased danger to cyclists, it's definitely not an overreaction to the recent change.

Man, I don't know. There are still bike lanes on the street. I'm all for PBLs but this seems like a bit of an over-reaction and is probably not helping tension.
