Lake Shore Drive and the Lakefront Trail Redesign: Signage and Education Now

I sent this to the Active Transportation Alliance today:

The city is reconstructing the north side Lake Shore Drive and the Lakefront Trail, and one of the elements of the redesign is Signage and Education for the Trail; is that not something that can be done now? Why wait? I would encourage you to lobby for putting the signage up now and begin educating users of the trail.

I would appreciate a response.

Considering how much of the trail around Navy Pier is torn up and closed it's not worth putting up signs, instructional or educational. Are they going to put up mini signs like you see on snowmobile trails?

I received this reply from Active Transportation Alliance:

Thanks for reaching out, I manage our lakefront trail work. We agree short-term improvements like signage and education should happen now and we can’t wait for the lengthy and uncertain NLSD process to run its course before improving safety for all users. We actually met with the Park District yesterday on this topic, along with the Chicago Area Runners Association and a leader from the Department of Transportation. We discussed signage, pavement markings and other low-cost improvements that could happen now, and the park district is interested. We’re planning to reach out to supporters like you soon for feedback and input to bring back to the park district. Stay tuned.
