Hello friends!

I'd love to hear your recommendations for a speaker for my bike. I tend to use earbuds (only in the right/non-traffic side!) but even that is probably not particularly safe :)

Any recommendations you have would be great!

The JBL clip is pretty decent and convenient since it's easy to hang off the chrome bag buckle and probably would be similarly suitable for other bags as well. The downside is the battery doesn't last terribly long at full volume so i keep it plugged into a charger as I go.

I use the ION clipster. It's not too expensive, easy to use and can reach fairly high volumes.

I just clip it onto my backpack strap. The battery lasts me awhile. I commute 2-3 hours a day and maybe charge once a week--it has yet to die on me. Although it doesn't say it is waterproof, I have been using it in the rain and have had no issues (even during Monday's downpour).

My bf has http://www.amazon.com/Abco-Tech-Speaker-Speakerphone-Red/dp/B00JDN8... and I had the older model without bluetooth.

Pros - velcro for easy mounting and removal, holds your phone inside it, rechargeable, cheap to replace if you're lazy about removing and it gets stolen

Cons - not super loud (but loud enough for a buddy next to you to hear),  battery life ~ 2 hours, not waterproof

I just picked up http://www.alteclansing.com/al-products/mini-lifejacket-2/ and it seems awesome!

Pros - loud! 10 hr max battery life, easy controls, bluetooth reaches nearly the length of my house, waterproof (haven't yet tested battery life and waterproofness, but Amazon reviews of the larger version are good), has camera type mounting screw on bottom and comes with mounting bracket

Cons - expensive ($100), mounting bracket too small for an aluminum top tube (but fit handlebar on my Jamis commuter fine. Bungeed it to my road bike rack this morning)

Ha! I love it! Thanks for sharing. We have a group or forum post for just about every single bike-related topic and then some. :-)

The info here is fresher.  The group was intended for people carrying BIG sound, but those systems got way smaller in the intervening years.  I've been through a bunch of them, and currently use and love this $11 thing.  The slap-band fits on handlebars, and it has a uSD slot (in addition to BlueTooth) so no phone needed.  Still want one with all that, and FM (and better controls), but this one matches my minimalism well.

I strongly recommend the JBL Pulse. It provides great sound quality at a good price and has a lot of pros... for example, it fits in your water bottle cage (i usually place a velcro strap around it as safe guard), it lights up in different patterns (the lights help cars see you), and Best Buy offers a 'no questions' asked warranty that will replace it for any reason (as long as it doesn't look physically damaged). I've had mine for two years now and LOVE IT! Good luck!

I've got the JBL On Tour Micro.  You can hang it off any bag w/a carabiner.  It's ok.
