I can get every part me of me warm on cold rides except for Jimmy. He no like. He hide. I hate to ride when he hide.

HA. Back from vaca to see this thread has had quite a life.
I was riding out on the North Branch Trail today (for the first time BTW) and everything was good except for my guy. It was painful. I think what is happening is that when I ride for more than ten or fifteen miles, I start to sweat underneath all the layers. So my guy I think is getting wet maybe. I had to stop after a while and just hold on to him to warm him up. And definitely the wind too. So I rode the last five miles back home with my hand over my crotch.
I need something when it dips below 35 that will keep things warm and out of the wind but also keep things dry. Or maybe I shouldn't ride too long when it's cold which sucks because my commute is 15mi. I don't think this would all be an issue if I didn't have a long bike commute.
I had to google Liz Hatch. Uhm... she kind of scares me.

The Mongols under Genghis Khan layered mutton grease on their skin to help keep warm.

I was doing that until everyone complained about the odor.

'Twas the trailing pack of dogs and cats that made me stop.
I actually used to have this problem and believe me it's a real problem! Most people thought I was being crass when I was looking for a solution, no thanks to those insensitive non-believer, I was able to find a real solution:
I initially found Sport Hill undergarments that block the wind at the crotch. Later when I started using biking shorts that seemed to do the trick.
Must be how Flea rides in the cooler months.

Classic recommendation is a decent wool sock. Wrap up "Jimmy" in one of those.
Funny you mention that, I always have a greased Mongol in my saddle bag. Great for keeping warm and the occasional invasion of a rude driver's car.
