When I first heard about the severity of his injuries (shoulder blade fracture, elbow fracture, hand fracture, facial fracture), I wondered how much it would affect his future. I hope that he's able to make a meaningful recovery.

According to the story below (and others), he swerved to avoid colliding with another cyclist.

Thanx for the details Anne.  Everything I read left the exact incident a mystery.

And yeah Mike, I was surprised that it mattered, as I never thought of Bono as a guitarist.  But then I'm not a superfan.
