sweet! I may be on that line tonight!

Yes, I am. I work out of Ogilivie Transportation Center, on 500 W. Madison. On the Kenosha line. Feel free to say Hi. It seems the car I work in always has the most bikes, maybe because I really enjoy talking with the cyclists. They are usually very good people.

Mark said:I am a bit different in my riding then most people. I actually live in Wisconsin, but I ride in Chicago on a daily basis. I work for Metra, as a conductor, so I have a long break in Chicago, and enjoy the LFP as often as possible.
This hasn't been bumped since August. New folks, post pics of yourself, your ride, your puppy/baby/kittie, your pin number. Whatevs. And browse all the other chain-clinkers too.
Soo ready for weather to be a bit warmer!
I'm also a transplant from Nebraska. I was born and raised in Omaha and did my biking/bike-commuting in both Omaha and Lincoln.
Biking in Omaha was very different than in Lincoln. Neither had a lot in the way of "bike friendly infrastructure," on top of the whole "designed for cars" layout of the cities, but I remember that it was always much easier to bike through Lincoln because the main off-road paths were parallel to the main routes you'd take to get where you wanted to go. In Omaha, the main paths go north-south when most of the time you want to go east-west.
But yeah - much flatter here. Every year I go back to Omaha to visit and I'll rent a bike for some trail-riding - even the dips on the Keystone trail are steeper than most of what I have to deal with in Chicago. Biking in Omaha with my Chicago-trained legs always makes me feel like a wimp. I'm thinking next time I'll bring my own bike and see how much street riding I can handle.

Thanks for the welcome, Jeff! Always nice to meet a fellow former Nebraskan. And yeah, Omaha is long on hills and short on bike-friendly infrastructure. There is a small but dedicated group of folks advocating for bike-friendlier streets, but it's an uphill battle, especially with the new mayor.
Jeff Schneider said:Welcome from another former Nebraskan! I think you will find riding here much more fun than in Omaha. A lot of Chicago streets are much more bike-friendly, and of course we don't have *any* hills. I remember riding in Omaha from the river back to my home near the med center was quite an uphill battle. Omaha riders aren't wimps!

My ride (in my closet, where it's been pretty much since I moved here):
I'm not much of a winter rider yet, but I'm looking forward to more hospitable temperatures (anything above freezing would be welcome) and hopefully meeting some like-minded folks to ride with.
My name is Yolondra, but most people call me yo! I moved to Chicago almost three years ago. When I first moved here I had a Trek PDX, then soon bought a single speed/fixed geared bike. I'm an all weather cyclist, but this winter has been pretty rough. This summer I'm going on my first long ride from Denver to Durango Colorado, 425 miles, I'm so excited! This will also be the first time I've been to Colorado. I'm riding to raise funds and awareness for Anaplastology. Check it out, http://worthwhilemile.com/index.html. I'm a bit of a fitness nut, but again this winter has been rough, so I need to get back on top of things. I love to cook, I'm Massage Therapist, hopefully soon to be licensed in Illinois.
This is my face
My ride, Nightshade.
My arm wrestler alter ego, "The Doctor". Yes, I am an arm wrestler.
My Polar Vortex layers. I recently bought some shoe covers to add to the layers.
Welcome to you and your experience.
The altitude on that Colorado trip is gonna hurt if you're not ready for it. All the dizzyness of being drunk with none of the good feelings.
Fantastic trip since you'll be on the Million Dollar Highway, though. I'm sure you will be impressed.
Yeah, I'm kind of worried about the elevation. I was thinking about getting an elevation training mask.
