The Chainlink

The Green Machines thread got me to wondering why Chicago doesn't seem to embrace "mixed" businesses like they seem to in other cities.

But maybe my perception is just skewed there by lack of awareness?

What local businesses are you aware of that combine different types of services under one roof?

I'll start with some examples I can think of:

-Bar and model train store, 18th and Damen

-Tire shop, corner store, ice cream shop, video arcade, and used bike shop, corner of 18th and Leavitt.

-Bike shop and cafe....Heritage Cycles?" (never been in there-- is that a fair description?)

The Guanajuato Carniceria Mexican grocery store on my block has the best taqueria in town in the back. Does that count?

Logan Theater now has a bar, café, and lounge (which I'm guessing helps subsidize the movie-showing business).

Irv's bike shop in Pilsen is also a skate shop, IIRC.

^ I don't think I've ever noticed Irv's having skateboards.

Tommys Guitars on Chicago Ave. is a guitar shop where you can order burgers and sandwiches.

I've always thought it'd to be a good idea for coffee shops to sell guitar strings... which reminds me that you can buy guitar strings at Saki records.

The Chainlink! It combines talk about cycling and all types of other stuff like disparate services under one roof! Ha!
