The Chainlink

This came out of a conversation yesterday.  Sorry about the last minute notice.

Have you been wanting to try the new Vincennes bike lane but thought it would be better with a ride buddy or two?  Come out on Friday morning 9/13 and bring a friend.

I'd like to have a morning group ride at least once a week for as long as the weather allows.  I'll be riding from Beverly to the Loop.  If you want to ride north (commute or recreation) for part or all the ride, you're welcome to join the train.

Stops will be brief to keep the train moving.  If I've gotten no confirmations for a specific stop and I don't see anyone waiting, we'll keep moving past that stop.

If you're joining in, please RSVP and leave a comment saying where you're going to join, along with any questions or suggestions.  Here's an estimated schedule.

99th & Wood - LEAVING at 7:30 a.m.

95th & Vincennes - 7:36

91st & Vincennes - 7:39

87th & Halsted  - 7:43

83rd & Vincennes  - 7:47 (Simeon Career Academy)

79th & Vincennes  - 7:50

76th & Vincennes - 7:53

71st & Vincennes  - 7:58

From there, we'll cross the Dan Ryan, then continue north.  I'll be going to the Loop (about 14 miles, aiming for 12-14 mph average riding speed).  Take as short or long a ride as you wish.

On the way, we can talk about possible future rides, including weekend rides.  If you can't make it but would like to suggest future dates, please post in comments or send me a message.  Thanks!

Get on the bike train!  Let's create a positive bike presence in the Vincennes bike lane.

If you need to reach me after 7:00 a.m. tomorrow because you want to join in, please text your preferred meet-up location (from the list above) to 312-520-1641 and I'll look for you there.  Please don't be late!

I was out of town last Friday. We're going again this Friday 9/27. Looks like it will be a fine morning for a ride. If you want to join in for part or the whole thing, RSVP w/your meet-up location in comments, or send me a text w/your meet-up location. (312 520 1641).

Sounds like fun.  I won't be able to make it however.

We're going to try for a weekly thing as long as the weather stays moderate. Join us next week if you can.  And if you know anyone else who might be interested, please spread the word.

Tomorrow morning (Fri 9/27) - come out and ride!

I will likely join at 99th or 97th and Vincennes according to schedule.  However it has to take more than 6 minutes to get from 99th & Wood to 95th and Vincennes.

Sounds good. When I rode it 2 weeks ago (avg 12-14 mph riding pace), the estimated schedule was fairly accurate.

Excellent ride today. Thanks to Derrick James and Peter Taylor for sharing the ride.  No trouble at all with drivers respecting the lane.

Bonus: First ride with bike lane symbols and bollards, newly installed in the last 2 days.

Today's musical theme:

Thanks for the bump. Planning to roll again tomorrow morning, as long as the weather is reasonable.

The more bike trains, the better IMO -> create more visibility and awareness about transportation cycling.

After last night's volatile weather and seeing thunderstorms popping up on radar this a.m. (and not feeling so great this morning), I will NOT be riding this morning.  If you choose to ride, please post on here about how it went. I'm planning to go again next week.

We're having a special event this weekend to explore and celebrate the improvements to our south side bike route/lane network: the Going South Tour.  It's scheduled for Saturday 10/12 with a rain date of Sunday 10/13.  Bonus: optional stop for the annual Pullman House Tour.  I hope you can join us.

Right now the weather is looking iffy for Saturday - 50% chance of t-storms.  I'll look at conditions in the early a.m. on Saturday and make a decision by 7:00 a.m.  If it's a no go, we'll plan on our Sunday rain date.

Please check the event listing on Saturday morning before you head out.  I will mark it as cancelled if Saturday's weather looks too ominous.
