The Chainlink

Hey guys! I was referred from a good friend to join this awesome group of folks and leave my sad news. My bicycle was stolen from my back porch in Logan Square (Lyndale-Lawndale) while it was perfectly double locked and protected.

It has black handle bar tape with slight wear on one side. The frame is slightly worn, the "Americano" logo is covered with black electrical tape, and a bright yellow bird is visible on the lower frame. It has a black rack on the back with a black travel cord, black Planet Bike fenders, and the fenders are custom fit to the bike with obvious square shaped cuts out of the fenders near the brakes. The tires are lime green. The seat is slightly worn and lime green as well. The picture shown is a retail photo of the bike.

The bikes name is Betty. I love her. If you see her please contact me.

Thanks for your time guys.

Be sure to fill out a report at the CSBR with as much information on the theft as you can: http://chicago.stolenbike.org/node/add/content-stolen-bike-report

Betty is pretty. Hope you find her.

Sad news - I am also in Logan Square and my bike was stolen out of my locked and secured garage sometime between late last night and early this morning.  It was also locked up inside the garage (burgandy Jamis commuter).  Last week I saw a group of guys on bikes using cells basically scoping out every back yard up and down the few blocks surrounding our house - I am fairly certain these are who got my bike as well as a few other things from our garage. I also filled out a stolen bike report.

Sorry for both of you!  Garage break-ins are such a pain.  Last time we had one we put in the heaviest steel service door we could and when we leave we put one of those wedge things under the door knob.  Of course we don't put the wedge in when we are home, and I am sure a determined thief could still get in.  But it is sort of like locking up the bike--make yours the hardest to get.

Sorry to hear!

Rumor has had it for several years that your local gang is all up in bike theft.... so far mine just seems to be sticking to drugs.

We have our garage door locked and the electric cut when we are home or out of town for long periods of time.  Our bikes are locked to a chain inside and our garage door from our yard was locked.  Pretty sure they picked the lock after going through our yard. You'd think the hoops they surely had to jump through were enough. I almost wished they had taken one of the cargo bikes so it was worth filing an insurance claim for.  Fortunately or unfortunately, if I hadn't gone camping this weekend, all of my work tools would also be gone since they clearly went thru my vehicle as well.
