Jana Kinsman could have been killed in Logan Square area last night by driver and pals thinking they're funny

Basically, some dudes in a purple tahoe grabbed her while she was on her bike and pulled her along next to the car while she was screaming for her life.

Bassed on things that have happened in areas with these, Im not sure that they are working. It almost seems "safer" not on these streets.

I ran into the "what's a woman doing cycling down Kimball at midnight?" argument. As if bad things don't happen during daylight. What time of day would be acceptable for a woman to cycle down Kimball? Sheesh. I didn't even respond.

I have trouble believing people will be so callous. I posted the DNA link on facebook, and one of my friends responded with "well, some bicyclists around here are just really bad and run red lights and etc..." That 'blame the victim' attitude (more than just the one post) was making me livid this morning.

That type of victim-blaming of women is so obnoxious. Are we supposed to stay inside from sundown til sunup? And what clothes should we wear? Maybe we should just stop being women out in public tempting the menfolk with our mere presence.

Yes. She deserved to be overwhelmed by kindness even before the heinous incident. She was hugely inspirational and encouraging before and is now is even more so.

I got an eyeroll and a "oh come on" from my noncycling roommate as we watched the news story.  I echoed what Jana said about just because I'm vulnerable and on a bike doesn't mean it's okay to be harassed.  If I was just walking down the sidewalk, it doesn't give a driver the right to make lewd comments at me or throw things at me and speed away just because they can.  Those guys who did that to her are cowards and sickos.

To be honest, I personally wouldn't want to be cycling in that area around that time. But that is still no excuse for what happened.

I agree with the thought that I need to educate my friends, not exclude them, when they make stupid statements.
