9/20/12 Damen from Division to Jackson is "Rough Grooved Surface." Plan accordingly.

Dickens is a great route westbound through Lincoln Park. It's wide and low traffic because motor vehicles can't go through Oz Park, but we can. Belden is a very good alternative to Webster, going east. It gets a little more hectic than Dickens because it's narrower, there are no forced turn-offs for cars, and many LP/DePaul drivers use it as an eastbound route to avoid Fullerton, but it's still very good.

Is Dickens a good ride westbound? Otherwise, I went Clybourn/Southport/Clark back and it wasn't too bad.
Take two. The sewer work is completed, new asphalt laid down, and this morning a crew was striping the last part that had not been striped.

I'll take that back. What looked like some minor work at Southport and Waveland has turned into a big scale sewer main replacement. Funny how the city manages to do that.
The rest of the stretch seems to be in good shape.

Wells between Chicago and North is still under construction. Last year, the water main was replaced. Earlier this year, the sidewalks were made ADA compliant, and now they are replacing the man hole covers and sewer grates.
It may be a while before repaving happens and the bike lanes get upgraded.
RE: California- it's now rough grooved surface from Addison to Elston, as of last night. Again, totally rideable with caution.
Watch for (much-needed) resurfacing on Clark thru Andersonville (near Foster, I think). Rough, grooved surface, lane closure, uneven pavement etc.
Ravenswood is again passable from Belmont to Rogers Park. There's still some steel stacked up for the continuing work on the Metra Tracks, but no longer a detour as of last night.
I work in that neighborhood and have been taking Orleans northbound--much nicer until they finish Welles.

How 'bout Ravenswood west of the Metra tracks? All done?

When did that start? I rode by there this morning and saw nothing to this effect?

How long is the resurfacing on Clark? I might need to detour when I head up this weekend.

I was northbound last night, haven't checked out the southbound side. I usually bail for Wolcott or Damen anyway rather than switch back and forth on Ravenswood.

Ravenswood west of the Metra tracks is still closed South of Lawrence. That might last a while, since the station is nowhere near complete.
I'd agree with David. Wolcott to Berteau to Damen is preferred when going southbound.
