For anyone who lives far south, or is planning to ride in Beverly in the next few days, I'd recommend avoiding Longwood Drive between 95th and 98th for at least a few days.  There's a big water main reconstruction project on Longwood between 96th and 97th (closed to traffic), which is creating detour traffic annoyance on Longwood south of 97th and north of 96th and on adjacent streets. People are driving like maniacs around there right now - much more than usual, especially on 97th, Winchester, Damen and 96th.

Thanks! I've been avoiding it all week. They weren't kidding when they said rough grooved surface!

It's a pretty smooth ride, no more huge divots between Chicago/Ogden and the overpass! They've started adding the separated lane markers....which I am still a little leary of, but we'll see how it goes.

Looking good this morning from California (Logan Square) down to Kinzie (downtown)

SW SIde - Archer Ave, from Halsted to about Pulaski is in several different modes of construction...both sides of the Ave.

Be careful with the loose gravel/debris, as well as metal plates out on the streets.

This is in BOTH directions.

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend, Everyone !

This week, Lock St is totally closed under the rail viaduct north of Archer. It is completely blocked off, even the sidewalks. This makes the Archer->Lock->Eleanor->Loomis route to downtown pretty crappy as the alternate, Loomis (south of Eleanor) is very narrow and busy during rush hours. I'll probably be riding up Halsted or Canal or perhaps taking the super long-cut to the lakefront for the rest of the week.

Manny FU...Really!? said:

Southport between Addison and Irving Park is nearly complete with new asphalt northbound. On Southport south of Lincoln the repaving job started this morning

Oh sweet. I've been detouring a bit for that part for the past month or so for my commute home.

Thanks for that update, especially the south of Lincoln part.  Will be glad to see it all done!

The Longwood construction is done. Yeah!

I'll take that back. What looked like some minor work at Southport and Waveland has turned into a big scale sewer main replacement. Funny how the city manages to do that.

The rest of the stretch seems to be in good shape.

Dearborn from Chicago to Oak is now repaved with brand new blacktop as well as a newly painted bike lane! The bike lane gives bikers some space when turning left onto Oak.  But I still want to be on the right side of the cars turning left so it's easier to then make the right onto Clark. Either way I'll take the new pavement.

I was surprised at the new continuation of the left-side bike lane north of Chicago.  I like it, but agree that turning left at Walton (not Oak) is easier when on the right of the turning cars.  But I'm just grateful for any lane markings on the new pavement in general; it was so discouraging to see how the lack of lane markings for a few days screwed up traffic on that stretch of Dearborn.  So many cars using that left lane at Walton without realizing it was left-turn-only because Dearborn switches to two-way traffic there; I guess they couldn't figure it out until they were face-to-face with an oncoming car.

NooB here--just moved to Rogers Park and commute to Cabrini--er, "North Goose Island area" when I don't want to freak out my family. Came to this site looking for workarounds for Kenmore/Sheridan shutdown, great helpful community.

I may be wrong, but I think there's heavy construction/resurfacing on Webster between Clark and Oz Park. I took it Monday from Lincoln Park to Halsted, but then yesterday found it torn up to bits. I can't imagine all that construction started over three days, but maybe I was just tuned out the other day.

Is Dickens a good ride westbound? Otherwise, I went Clybourn/Southport/Clark back and it wasn't too bad.
