The Women Bike Chicago event is fast approaching: http://www.thechainlink.org/events/women-bike-chicago-a-day-of-demo...
The planning is complete, but we need some volunteers:
7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Help set up tents outside, help post signs in the area to point the way to the event, help set up tables and recycling/trash collection
9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Check-in/registration for attendees, answer questions, collect information for Ride Buddies, post information about Ride Buddies, hand out goody bags
9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Assist instructors giving Safety Skill training, oversee bike corral to help people who want to try riding bikes, be a "runner" to communicate information around the event as needed.
1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Break down and clean up
2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Go to party at Simone's
The event will be held at Addams Hall at UIC campus. Safety skills and bike corral are in outside areas near the building.
Can you give a couple of hours or even the whole day to help encourage other women to get out and ride? Your assistance with the physical tasks will be greatly appreciated, and your presence will confirm that any woman can ride a bike for any reason.
You can let us know here, or ask to join the Women Bike Chicago group and comment or join the discussion there. http://www.thechainlink.org/group/women-bike-chicago

I can help with the break down and cleanup at 1pm.
Thanks, Rachel.
Is there any specific time you really need help with? I should be able to throw a few hours in.
We need the most help during the morning set-up because we have multiple tasks that must be done at the same time. Second highest need will be 9 to 11 for either of the types of help listed. Let us know what works for you, and thank you.
Thank you Jennifer. Will you come for 9:00 and we will see when we need assistance?
As to outside activities, we will plan for them no matter what although bad weather might dampen the enthusiasm of potential participants.
The ten day forecast--which I recognize is useless--now says sun, starting in the low 30s and going up to the mid 40s. Any volunteers who have particular influence with the weather gods, please use it to at least keep sunshine and above 30 in our sights.
Jennifer on the lake said:
I can assist with gathering and dissemination of information (ie, check-in, etc) for either shift. Or both shifts, if needed.
Will the outdoor activities be held rain/shine/snow/wind/warm/cold/whatever?
All who have volunteered or want to volunteer, please send an e-mail to wbikechi at gmail dot com with your name and phone number so we can keep in touch. If you would like to give us an e-mail address, that would be great, too.
We can still use some help. Thanks, everyone.
To all volunteers, here is a link in case you need information about getting there and exact location:

If you are going to be outside helping with the bike corral or with the traffic safety skills, remember that standing around in the cold is not the same as riding your bike in the cold! The weather forecast is dry, but probably at best upper 30s so extra layers will be needed.
If you are riding your bike, there are some racks right out in front of Addams Hall. If you are volunteering your bike to be in the bike corral, we are going to try to have several volunteers responsible for it to be sure that bikes stay in the immediate area in which riding will be allowed. To that end, we might be asking for extra help out there.
Please try to be there at least ten minutes before the time for which you volunteered. Jennifer James is handling the "front of the house", so please check in with her. Any questions, let me know or send them to the wbikechi@gmail.com address. If you have not sent your phone number, please do.
Thanks to everyone.
