Had not ridden since it snowed. I was glad to be on my bike on such a beautiful morning but the bike lane on Augusta is a mess and the building between Jefferson and Clinton on Kinzie, the Merchandise Mart building east of Kinsbury along the Kinzie bike lane and the 181 N. Clark building which backs up to Dearborn had piled their snow in the bike lanes. The city clears the lanes and then buildings pile the snow in them. Grrrr! As Duppie said elsewhere, I am ready for spring.

Be careful in the Kinzie lane this AM. Pretty icy.

Worst part of my commute from Wicker Park to Millenium Park by far.

It was a thrill for me to ride today for the first time since January 19. Up here in Michigan we had 46.4 inches of snow in February, and 86" for the winter. Has not been the best year for winter commuting. But back at it today before the next storm.

Experienced my first disgruntled CTA bus driver since moving back to Chicago this morning. This dude nearly side swiped me on Southbound Clark between Wisconsin and Lincoln. I absolutely could not believe it. I feel like I have fairly thick urban biking skin and let a lot of close calls roll off my back, but this guy was clearly acting with malice. When I rode past him at the light @ Lincoln we was yelling out the door at me! I was 100% behaving responsibly, I hadn't even proceeded through a red light in the past few miles.

It's things like this morning that make me wish I had some sort of on board camera, I was too shaken up to pull out my phone and get a picture before removing myself from the situation and turning right onto Lincoln in order to take Wells the rest of the way in. I feel like, without some sort of visual evidence of what happened, the cops don't give a shit. They probably don't give a shit even with a picture.

BUT I usually don't get any kind of response unless I get the 4-digit bus # (not the route #). If you can, get the # on the driver's sleeve too.

It's important to get the route # and run# (# displayed in the lower corner of the bus's front window) for making a report like this. The driver's badge # is also helpful. Without the run #, it's difficult for CTA to identify the offending driver. If you provide as much information as possible (route #, run #, driver's badge #, time of incident and location), CTA tends to be fairly responsive in following up.

Nope! Be safe everyone who has the courage to ride today. The weather map has so many pretty colors on it, and this forecast: A mixture of snow, sleet and/or freezing rain will develop by 9am. Cloudy and windy. Temperatures steady near 35F. Winds NE at 20 to 25 mph.
