I had a similar experience last night except the rain turned into snow on my way home. Beautiful! I was excited about my new waterproof boots. Once I got home I realized that waterproof boots won't help much if one's trousers socks are allowing water in from the top! Guess I needs some gaiters or rain pants (again) for occasions such as last night.

It was great to me Megan and Wolf Cub and Adam and Peter(?) at Cal's last night. Yay Chainlink!

Rode the Lake Front Path from Montrose today.  Frequent patches of ice.  Impassable south of Fullerton.  Got off at North Avenue, everything south was either wet or iced.  I suspect that when the temp falls, much of the path will be difficult to ride.  Standing water will turn to ice and all the spots where the waves were on the path will be like glass.   Not a bad ride, since the wind was to my back!!  

Unlike the ride home last night, even with the rain gear, one boot filled with water and felt like it was filled with ice.  :)    When I got to my building, someone commented that I just missed the snow.   I had an icicle foot, but I missed the snow flakes.  lol

Maybe the water was being tossed up from your front wheel.  Fenders with long tails (and maybe mudflaps) might help.

NBC Chicago Channel 5 weatherman Brant Miller will have Cheryl Scott air my photo - taken today on my bike ride along the lakefront at Waveland, below - on the weather segment (usually around 10:18 p.m.) of the news next Friday, December 28, and it will be on the weather page of the Monday, January 31, Sun Times.
Adding to my 15 seconds of fame a few seconds at a time.

Hmmm, from both personal experience, and that of others, gloves, unless electrically heated (maybe), are of little value on very cold and windy days. Mittens offer much more warmth. People also speak highly of bar mitts. Please keep us posted with your results.

Got up this morning to test my cold gear (and mettle).  My brain says "go", but my hands say "aw, hell no".  Gonna wait until we hit a cozier 28 - 30 degrees, then peddle up to REI.  Seems some GIGANTIC gloves might solve the problem.

440 am and out the door to ride to the Winter Solstice Percussion concert. No wind but cold. With good gear its a delightful pedal. The concert was amazing. You should go to tomorrow's show. Years ago we were the only people to ride to the show. There were a bunch of bikes parked outside this morning.

Rode to Golf/Mill to pick up a gift for Ellen.  Yes, she requested a miter saw.  Gotta love her!  Just after I snapped this shot the bike fell over, my only mishap on the entire ride.

Rode to Pecking Order and back for the Chainlink Opus Bike Giveaway party.  Small but congenial group!  The ride in the sunshine with little wind was so beautiful. And the ride home wasn't bad, either.
