The Chainlink

Does anyone have a bike they could lend a 5 foot 6 girl who is here for the next 6 weeks staying in lincoln park? She loves to bike but did say sometimes she gets knee pain.

I may also need a bike to borrow for the male student, but I won't know for a couple days yet if the bike his host family has for him will work. Tamer is arab, and the female student, anna, is Israeli.

They are here as part of a keep chicago beautiful internship. They both study at the arava institute in israel, an environmental university that brings together muslims, jews and christians.

They are here for 6 weeks learning about our environment and the region. I've hosted the female students before from jordan and israel.

I will probably spam them with our weekly Chainlink newsletters and drag them to events for the next 6 weeks :))

anyone??? Tamer told me is 6 feet (had to convert from centimeters).

They are ready to get biking in our city!

If you're still looking Julie, I have one one of them could borrow (Gary Fisher mountain bike, boys-style).  It fits me  (I'm 6'), so may be better for Tamer.  The only caveat would be that if for some reason Pete's bike goes South, we'd need it back so he can get to work; but I don't foresee that happening.

Drop me an email if interested!

Julie,

I've got a bike or maybe two that a 6-footer could borrow - it's not very practical (no racks or fenders, nor much ability for same) but it works well. I don't have anything that would fit 5'6" that is rideable, though.

Although I do hope that someone out there will loan a bike, this may be a difficult sell for people to loan out a decent rideable bike with the bike theft as bad as it is in Chicago.  If necessary, Working Bikes is a great resource to get a good cheap useable bike if loaners don't come through.

Thanks Matt,

I don't think there is money in their internship budget for bikes, that's why I thought I'd ask around for people who have extra bikes collecting dust in their garage somewhere. Many of us have an affinity for having way to many bikes.  I have tons of bikes but they all fit little people, 5 foot 2 and under.

I could loan her my old mountain bike.  It's a little big for me, so it would probably fit her.

Anna is staying in Lincoln Park. I'll be talking to her tonight.  Tamer is in Skokie this week and moving to his hose in Lincoln Park next week.

If you can't find anything by Sep 1 (thats when I'm back from Poland) then I can loan my Gary Fisher hybrid with a lock. It's a 17 inch frame but the top tube is at a bit of an angle so it should fit someone 5'6. It's my winter bike so I won't miss it until December and it's in good condition except for squealy brakes. Plus I live in Lincoln Park.

awesome. Sounds like they may have some options which is good. I want them to ride a bike that's comfortable for them.  In the past the bikes the interns rode didn't always fit them right.

Liz - I know you live close, and Anna is coming over tonight.  I just shot you a text to see if we could swing by tonight.

Julie,

Are you still looking for a bike for the six-footer? I will be home tonight.

David

David, I may be.   Anna, the 5 foot 8 inch (apparently she is taller than she thought in feet), has a bike at least temporarily.

Tamer and I have to meet up.  David, what type of bike and what neighborhood are you in?  I'll be with Saya tonight so I can take a peek at her extra bike too.

Thanks everyone, it's really kind of you guys to help out. They are neat people visiting Chicago for 6 weeks, and study during the year at a really neat school:

The Arava Institute is the premier environmental studies program in the Middle East, preparing future Arab and Jewish leaders to cooperatively solve the region's environmental challenges. Together, faculty and students are advancing a critical common cause -- a sustainable future for the region’s human and natural resources.
