Recently Northwestern University English teacher Bill Savage, an authority on Chicago literature and history (and brother of the sex advice columnist), invited me to join him on the 25-mile bike commute he regularly does from his girlfriend's place on the Southwest Side to his home in Rogers Park, traversing the entire city diagonally.
