The Chainlink

I don't know if someone posted this already. One of my fellow cyclists posted this on his FB profile.

This guy hit some cyclists (almost seemed deliberate the way his car was angled) and ran off. The cyclists are REALLY lucky to have only bruises. If one of them was without a helmet, he might have been dead. Good thing they caught this on tape, because the driver was eventually tracked down and brought to justice.

"KPIX reports that Oakland police found the vehicle Friday morning and alerted the Berkeley Police Department. After an examination of the vehicle, Berkeley police were led to Jack London Inn in Oakland, where officers contacted Medaglia late Friday afternoon.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession of heroin, felon in possession of ammunition, violation of probation and felony hit-and-run."

I guess this is the least important aspect of the case, but let's review:  a felon on probation commits a hit and run and reports the car as stolen to try to cover it up.  At this point, he knows that as soon as the car is found the police are going to stop by and ask him about it.

Wouldn't you think that's a good time to get rid of the heroin and the ammunition?

Ugh - video reminds me of getting hit the same exact way at Broadway and Irving Park...  Glad they are okay.

What is most disturbing are the comments by readers. Instead of victimizing the cyclists, they are accusing them of breaking various traffic laws, and some even go on to rip on all cyclists for getting in the way of cars, rolling stop signs and looking ridiculous in spandex. It's quite frightening.

Comments sections are usually the 'worst of the worst' examples of sub-human typing=grunting. Check out the knuckle draggers at the Tribune site sometime.

Nobody ever deserves to get run over- even if they blow through stop signs and wear ridiculous clothing.
