Anyone know of a decent place that could braze-on some shifter cable guides? Apparently, the frame I have is devoid of shifter braze-ons and cable housings (it seems to have a housing for the rear derailer, but nothing on the downtube or under the bottom bracket). If anyone knows of a company or person that could braze-on some guides, that would be great.

Thanks!

Try Barnard's Schwinn in Oak Park.  I've had them install bottle bosses to my 68 Super Sport frame and it looks factory clean.   Plus custom made ferrules to fit existing cable guides (needed this done because of the difference between modern and orignal cable housing) and I think the cable guide under the bottom bracket was a three dollar item.   They do not look it but the are a full restoration and custom service shop, besides selling bikes.  If thy cannot do the braze-ons they probobly know and trust someone who can.  Plus they're local.  And I think they charged me $50.00 for the two bottle bosses.  One other thing the store is full of vintage perfectly restored schwinns, alot from the 60,s.  If you grew up in chicago and schwinns this place is like a candy store.

Use just cable guides and run the gear cable housing al the way to the front and rear derailleurs, if needed you could also add a small inline cable adjuster.  Clamp on solutions were used for many years. Until they come zip ties will hold your cables in place so you can get out and ride that new bike.

The bike shop was not wrong, a clamp on cable stop was never designed to be part of a modern sti shifting system. Any movement from the cable stop would result shifting issues.

A properly installed clamp-on cable stop will not move.

I would like to thank everyone for all the great advice!  We have a clamp-on cable guide coming in the mail hopefully tomorrow, but since I was hoping to get this done by the weekend, does anyone know where I can get those mickey cable adjusters locally? Would a regular bike shop have them in stock? Would anyone have some they would be willing to part with?  We are using the "brifter" type shifters and right now have cable zip ties and duct tape holding the shifter cable housing to the down tube. I can shift 3 gears total on the back, but the line starts to slack, so I think I will need those barrel adjusters and the clamp to at least be able to shift decently. Right now, the bike is rideable, albeit as a 3 speed  LOL.  Thank you all again!

Your local bike shop should have these, however which derailleurs/brakes do you have?  There may already be adjusters on them.

It's just a Shimano Sora rear derailleur, and we have tried to use the barrel adjuster that is on the actual derailleur to no avail- it tenses it a bit, but there is still too much slack in the line that is on the downtube.

I'm going to check out a shop hopefully tonight to see if they have some in stock- I doubt they are more than $10, so even if I don't need them, just in case I do, I will have them.
