Wow.  Way to go Eric Puetz!

I also liked this part near the end: "He added that he still plans on biking the 21 miles to work every day."

He owns Smart Bike Parts in Logan Square. Bravo!

Outstanding!

And here's a Tribune interview video with Eric. (with an assist to Jason Knauff).

Three cheers for Eric.  Well done!

Saw this on the news tonight, I guess the old saying is true.

Cheers indeed to Eric. Now share your route in to the city everyday.

Eric's "perp."

A man who was tackled by a bicyclist after allegedly being seen robbing a 75-year-old woman of her purse on the city's Northwest Side this week was ordered held today in lieu of $300,000 bail.

Larry Bostic, 34, of the 4200 block of West Melrose Street, is charged with one count of robbery, according to court documents.

Awesomesauce!

Met him in person today at the shop...great guy.

Well done, Eric! VERY nice dismount technique.  Wonder what pedals/shoes he used.

This is an unbelievable story.  And I can't believe that Eric is all of 51.

I HAVE BEEN A RIDING ENTHUSIAST SINCE 73', THIS A TRUE STORY & NOT A PHONEY 1, A BIKE SHOP OWNER, VERY RELIABLE SERVICE PROVIDER OF RACING & RECREATIONAL RIDERS  & A FRIEND,WAS A GOOD SAMARITAN TO A ROBEERY BUT, IT WENT AWFULLY WRONG!

EDDY OWNED A SHOP NAMED CYCLERY NORTH ON BROADWAY & DEVON IN ROGERS PARK.

HE INTERVENED LIKE ERIC IN A ROBBERY ATTEMPT, THE ROBBER HAD AN ASSISTANT TO HELP EXECUTE THE CRIME.  WHILE EDDY ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE ROBBERY, THE BAD GUY'S ASSISTANT HIT EDDY ON THE HEAD WITH A BASEBALL BAT, THIS KNOCKED EDDY OUT , SENT HIM TO AN E.R. & HORRIBLEY LEFT EDDY PARALIZED FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE.

DEALING W/ SCUMMY LOW LIFE PCS. OF SHIT IS ABSOLUTLY RISKY BUSINESS!

THIS IS A FACTUAL & VERY SAD STORY.

WoW Kent, I love scary stories. Is there a risk to being a good person? You bet. But you could be a jerk and there is a risk. Which would you rather be? You can be hit by a car walking on the sidewalk, shit happens. but if you live in fear you might as well not live.

And speaking as someone that was hit in the head with a baseball bat during a fight I can tell you it definitely sucks. But I made it. Once again shit happens. Very proud that Eric showed the best of what humanity has to offer in the face of the worst.
