The Chainlink

So, it's no secret that people are not as gung-ho on RSVPing for things as they were when thechainlink was young and fresh-faced.  Still, considering positive RSVPs for our big swap topped 100 both of the previous years, it would be at least good to top that number maybe just as an omen of a successful year.

Can you help?

For us suburbanites that have to drive in and are bringing items to sell, where is pay parking (lot) in the proximity of the Field House?

No pay parking that I know of around there, just street parking.

Their website suggests otherwise:

VEHICLE PARKING

We highly recommend biking to the event or taking public transportation. Vehicle parking will be available in local lots for $5. Street parking is limited.

I have an e-mail in to their contact person.  If I get any info I will post it.

Hmmm. The operative term being, "that I know of." I honestly don't know where that would be.

Probably miles away!

Cynical Suburbanite :^(

The parking was really tight on the street last year, but if you get there early enough, you should be able to find a nearby spot. We had the kid in tow last year, so we drove and managed to find some nearby street parking (less than a block or two away). I advise getting there by 9:30 a.m. or so and you shouldn't have too much of a problem.  I am not sure where the local lots were last year, we didn't see any (or weren't aware of them).

P.S. Just changed my "might" rsvp to a "will attend" LOL.  See everyone tomorrow!

Howard I will be there ~10am and be available most of the day.

Hey folks, give us chance here; the organizers responded to concerns about parking and made arrangements with local churches and such to use their lots.

I don't know why the exact locations aren't listed on the site*; I'm pretty sure the vendors, who will be relying most on parking, received more detailed info.

The volunteer roster, including parking helpers in 3 shifts, was posted here.

*how many times do you go to a website and travel directions are -only- for cars? I can't complain too loudly here about the opposite . . .

Great. You received your detailed volunteer assignment info from Christine?

Hey all, we have worked with a local church across the street on Noble, it will be $5!

Thanks,

Ethan Spotts, Active Trans

26 additional RSVPs since this thread was started-- thanks!

C'mon, only 20 more for the magic "100"-- we can do it!

I've collaborated with Steve Vance on a letter to Mayor Emanuel, CDOT Commissioner Klein and Police Superintendent McCarthy asking for a coordinated education and enforcement effort to accompany the coming bike network improvements.

Anyone who would like to read the letter and sign it should look for me (wandering or at the Chicago Cycling Club table) or Steve Vance and John Greenfield (at the Grid Chicago table) tomorrow at the Bike Swap.  We will have copies and signature pages there.
