The Chainlink

I rode today for the first time since November 26th when I was so blessed as to be hit by a PT cruiser driven by a nut-bag old woman.

I rode to work and was jittery, but i made it. When I rode home though the combination of the dark and the cars was awful. I actually hated the ride home. I have never hated riding my bike but i sure hated it today. Man, I can't even tell ya how bad i feel.

Thought I'd share. Hope everyone is having a good night.

hi gabe. I'm sorry to hear that you has such an awful experience riding yesterday, but i think that it's natural to have some nerves about getting back out on the ride. It might be a struggle like that for awhile, but it will get better. The more you keep riding and focusing on all the reasons you liked to ride before, the faster it will happen for you. I meant for encouragement, but I think that may have come out like advice. best, sarah
The best thing about this is that you are well and with no major injuries. We all know that this is part of riding and although we know it, it stills leaves you a little nervous when it happens.
It is all for the love of riding.
In the mean time ride well and be safe out there.
Glad to hear that you are back in the saddle. Good luck working through the nerves, which are a completely natural biological response.

Be strong my Hebraic Brother! Don't let the nut-bags get you down!
Congrats on getting back on the bike! Once it gets more comfortable and familiar again, I'm sure you'll do fine. Hang in there! It'll get better.
Hey there :) I'm glad you're back on the road with us. Hang in, it'll get smoother, don't give up.
I am very glad to hear that you are back on your bike. You will conquer your fear. Take that energy and be the master of it. only the dead are without fear, Fear is natures way of letting you know that you are still alive and a part of this world. You have a hardcore spirit and Im sure you will persevere!

I would raise my bike over my head in a salute to you if I hadnt f-ed up my right shoulder in a little disagrement I had with some water covered Ice at about four am saturday morning. (the water covered Ice won that argument) My injury is very very minor in comparison with what you went through. I wanted to ride today on this glorious day, but the shoulder was still a little tender. But tommorow I plan on riding no matter what. Pain can be an awful thing, but it can also be the redemer. it too, is natures way of letting you know that you yet live.

Remember there is no courage without fear.

Stay strong, you will master your fear.
Gabe, I'm so glad that not only are you better, but back in the game. I applaud your cojones for getting back out there, first beer on me at the next CL bar night!
Thanks for all the attempts at support. Didn't ride yesterday, may ride today but not likely. Hey big Red, hope the wing heals swiftly...That ice is a mofo. And Van, i never make the bar nights cause I work Thursday's but have one for me. ;-)
Little by little the confidence comes back. Almost one year ago I spent a few days in the hospital with some cracked ribs and internal bleeding curtesy of an SUV. What doesn't kill us just makes us ride harder. (And with eyes open a little further)
So a fantastic update for me, is a heads up for you. I received a bill from Athletico (where i did my physical therapy) for over $600 bux (there are still 4 visits that they haven't added to this and it's way high cause my insurance deductible rolled over in January). So i called them and informed the person that should have already known that this is a pending lawsuit and that I don't have any money and I was out of work for 7 weeks, and that I can give them my lawyers name and number or he can call them but that I can't pay this. And i was informed very matter-of-factly that they don't accept Liens (lawyer talk that says hold this right here and it will get paid.) So i asked what I can do and they told me I can pay it. Which I already said I can't. So i told them that they can go ahead and send all that to collections then and to go fly a kite. The Moral here, DON'T GO TO ATHLETICO. There are other places to get physical therapy. Especially if it's accident related.

Another fun note, the ladies insurance is sending someone to look at my destroyed bike to be sure that it's not rideable. It's a friggin U!
Gabe, great to hear you are back in the saddle. How is the new bike treating you? I picked up a nearly identical one and I love it. Hope you can join us for this months Marauders ride-it should be a good one. Try not to let the nerves keep you down. This is where I would give you some priceless bit of psychological wisdom or insight, but I got nothing. I have been hit more times than I care to recount, but the seperated shoulder took the longest to heal, and kept me off the bike the longest. Even the smashed collar bone and broken ribbs healed faster. Look at the bright side you missed some shitty weather for sure. Hope to see you out there soon.
Hey Martin ;-) I like the bike a lot and will ride it but when I get the cash (which is a long way off) I'm gonna get something with thicker wheels. Will help with being more comfortable in the road. I'm gonna give ya a holler in a bit cause i got a guy lookin for a BMX. ;-) You will see me at the Marauders ride for sure! ;-)
