Ya ain't felt nuttin' yet!

After falling twice on my commute from the train home last night, I decided to take the day off cycling.

I did get a chance to bust out my ice spikes for the walk to the bus though.

Starting week 2 w/o the bike ';-(

Dr had me on penicillin first, then zpac through today. At work and around 90% now; will probably take all this week off bike just to get all my hardware/software working correctly, then full reboot for next week!

Cannot wait; DO NOT LIKE TAKING TRAIN!

I rode to and from Bike Building Monday last night.

Getting stabbed in the eyeballs by freezing rain is not a feeling that I miss.  The ride back home afterwards was much better, though crazily slushing.

Yay fenders!

Back in the saddle tomorrow morning.

I got about 50 feet down the road from my house this morning before hitting a patch of black ice and the bike sliding sideways out from under me.  I managed to land on my feet but back in the garage the bike went and I walked to the train station.  Downtown was fine though, didn't really notice any slick spots.

I was wondering who was out there today! I did see some people on their bikes. They/you are super human! Even though I kinda wanted to ride my bike today, it was too cold for me and the ice freaks me out. If I have a bad fall and can't use both of my arms and legs for some reason, it is pretty much impossible for me to work. That doesn't really pan out very well if you're self-employed and have to eat and stuff.

Kudos to you brave people who made it and to those who tried! I didn't even bother to try.

Hi Serge--I am a dog walker so I pretty much have to walk and often need to use both of my hands since it's rare that I walk fewer than 2 dogs at once, and never more than 3 at one time.

I'm not one of those people who picks up a pack of dogs in their van and takes them all for a "walk" at the dog park.

But! I don't need to use my brain -- at least not to its maximum potential. :)

Got doored last Spring and I had a mandatory two weeks unpaid ass sitting time-off. It kinda sucked.

Now I'm curious. What do you do for living? Most of people I know need only hands and eyes, some don't even use their brains . . . oh, I forgot to mention asses they sit upon ;)

We were out there today. With weather like this, I stick to the main streets. When Michael was taking Miguel to school today, he used his normal route through Humboldt Park and he and his bike fell, but Miguel's trailer stayed up right. I was very grateful they were both OK. Picking Miguel up this afternoon was not too bad. We did get honked at on Chicago when I was taking one of the lanes. Oh well, sorry!

But the sidewalks. . . egads. Danger zones all around.

I've seen 2 people fall on the sidewalk today. The sidewalks must be insanely slippery. I haven't slipped yet but I can tell the streets are the worst I've ridden on all winter. I should really stop using my racing tires in this weather.
I can tell you, I walked on sidewalks for 4 hours today. Wretchedly slippery! I wondered if the roads were bad, but was too chicken to take Chet out just to find out if they were.
Going to make these ice tires earn their keep on my treacherous commute home.
I heard a number of people commenting on how slippery the roads / sidewalks were, but I had absolutely no problems.  I don't know whether to attribute that to my studded Schwalbe tires or conditions that weren't all that bad.  Indeed, riding south with the wind at my back, I was flying.  My biggest problem was the moisture and fog on my glasses -- at times I was flying nearly blind.  But what fun!
