For those who are riding in the probable snow later

I offer some questions: What would your work think if you asked to take off early to avoid the frosty melee? Would that even be a consideration for you? Or are you just inclined to tuff it out and ride as usual?

My co-workers keep trying to put the fear of God into me and say I should get while the gettin's good. But I've ridden in some pretty brutal conditions before. However, their words are starting to freak me just a bit...

All I know is I am happy I took my mountain bike out again instead of my roadie today. And 3 cheers to Performance, they were able to get huge fenders on my tiny bike!

Indeed! I stupidly tried to adjust my MB's cantis recently, and I fouled the job up so bad that one brake pad mercilessly rubs against one side of the front rim! ;-) And today/tomorrow would've been the day to ride it...

No one watches over my back at work, so theoretically I could cut out early and make it up another day. I just may do that today.

Would taking the LFP be a good idea today if its starts snowing? I think the icefields have all melted. I can see the grass on Grant Park.

I'm going to go ahead and ride. I'll probably leave at 5:30. Hopefully it won't be too bad....or the forcasters will have been wrong and it won't snow until much later.

The LFP was pretty much OK this morning around 8 AM. Hopefully, too much ice doesn't build up on it by this evening!

Don't forget about Snow Biking (from BW) - Any day of two inches (or more) of new snow fall in Chicago, meet up for Winter cycling. We'll head off to some random location and enjoy the Winter Wonderland. All ages/abilities welcome. The Handlebar, 2311 W North Ave. -Not sure if that will happen tonight, but I hope to try that sometime.

Just got home 5 minutes ago and when I first left work, I was just mild sleet. But once I walked out Jewel it looked and felt like it was snowing. Shouldn't be too bad for the rest of y'all on the way home (I hope!).

First make sure the wheel is in straight, then play with the tension screws. On the opposite side of the 'rubbing' pad, let the screw out, while screwing the other side in. The screws push on springs in the brakes, pulling the brake away from the rim or letting it closer.

Also, on a lot of cantilevers, the little plastic shell that goes around the spring cracks, leaving nothing for the spring to 'press' against. Check to make sure it's not cracked.

For those who still have to ride home - the LFP is totally clear. The rainy snow melted the patches that were there this morning. It should be good for a little while longer, at least.

I was considering leaving early (and continue working from home) but the snow never really started, so I didn't worry about it.
