The Chainlink

Here are my personal unfavorites for street riding. Please share your most disliked streets and routes for new/existing riders.

-Addison between clark and damen (hellacious potholes, little scary tiny rocks)
-Western (self-explanatory)
-Wrigleyville before/during/after a cubs game
-Division (between elston and ashland, ghost bike installed there for a reason)
-Irving Park Rd (I got pushed so far into the parked cars by traffic I took out a sideview mirror with my fist riding a CRUISER)

Anyone else?

True dat!! I avoid Sheridan like the plague. And did I miss the memo, but does it seem that this week was "tear roads apart" week. What is up with all the resurfacing! Yikes.

I think Sheridan is really bad. Super narrow and the cars all have their Lake Shore Drive mentality going on.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ashland yet.
Grand.... from what I've seen near racine. The cars are ruthless, no painted lanes. blach.

Wells again... in between lincoln and north has now torn out some nice huge square patches of street conveniently in the bike lane. Nothing serious, but enough to give you a nice bronco bump.

there have been several missing patches on milwaukee for the last month. some haven't been resurfaced still! i'm starting to see more on the side streets too. it's annoying.

As I said before, riding down Ashland is like playing Russian Roulette. Sure, you can do it, but why?
Damen is like that too. It's REALLY annoying!
Yea, I popped a flat on one of those missing pieces of road on Armitage last night...they come up so fast on the streets without many lights...

grrr.....

Cicero runs most of the length of the city (and a lot further south), and most of it is NOT bike friendly in any way.

I often ride down Cicero from Pratt to Peterson to hit that Whole Foods. It's busy, but it doesn't freak me out to terribly bad.

I totally feel that Addison between clark and damen is a death wish for innertubes.

And on a cubs day, u can literally spray paint a line a mile long down all the parked busses.

Wrigleyville is nutty, but even nuttier if u drive and have to find parking.

How about the LFP? can we say death trap? atleast on a sunday or saturday or any nice day for that matter.

Downtown is hectic, espeically Chicago Ave right past Larabee. lots of construction.

And cicero ave. that street takes the cake!

my bad. i forgot cicero goes that far. Anywhere between Elston and midway is seriously gross.
Portions of it are annoying, mostly near the United Center, IMO. North of Wellington and south of 71st it's no problem at all.

Chicago Ave... Could be worse, but specifically the bridge over the Chicago River, and the stretch between Grand and Sacramento (the pavement seems to turn into a lava flow of poor asphalt patches). Also Humboldt/ Sacramento in Humboldt park and to the south narrow roads and fast cars.
Milwaukee ave between lawrence and irving even before the started construction.
those are all good ones. addison is for sure. i like western sometimes more than damen though because there are so many stop signs on damen. I don't like north between halsted and damen either. sheridan in the north suburbs is scary. im pretty sure they have a no bikes sign there. i got a ticket for riding on the sidewalk when there were no people on it a couple years ago in downtown evanston. that was the most surprising thing ever. i take lincoln ave from lincoln square to lincoln park almost every day and i feel like there is a ton more glass in the bike lane than ever before.
