Original query:
Need a rec for a nice place to grab a bite. I tend to prefer small places, places off the beaten path, unusual or quirky in some way. Can be a little pricey. Anywhere in the city is fine. Thanks!

And now: the results (the mysterious NING gods gave us the power to edit an OP for eternity so why make anyone dig for this . . .)

Friendship Chinese Restaurant @ Diversey and Milwaukee. Great 5-course meal. All very well done. Highly recommend a Grüner Weltleinier to pair with dinner, as it is currently BYOW, but not BYOB.

One of my favorite places in the burbs I guess has moved into the west loop so I thought I would add it to the list. Try it out, the steak burritos are delicious.
El Famous Burrito 901 W. Madison St. Chicago, IL, 60607 312.666.8788

Roger's Park is a suburb now? Or is that a different El Famous?

Geo-quibbling aside, thanks for posting about the new El Famous location. It is just a few blocks off of my normal commute up or down Morgan.

We finally made it to Nightwood for dinner last night. It was fantastic. The menu is sort of appallingly carnivore-centric, but they did a great job adapting a duck free version of the Duck with Polenta. They have some fun cocktails and a decent beer list. The architecture is pretty stunning. If you go, make sure you go to the back to see the open kitchen (if you are into that sort of thing.) It is on the pricey side. Dinner for 4 was ~ $160 before tip , but it is well worth it for the occasional special occasion.

Halsted gets a lot of bike traffic. It was fun to see so many bikes ride by through the gently falling snow.
Has anyone mentioned Paramount Room, 415 N. Milwaukee?

Excellent gastro-pub. Good (if not huge) craft beer selection. The same owners also have Volo Wine Bar and Kitsch'N on Roscoe.

I'm really happy to see that the veal and foi-gras is no longer on the menu. I'll be taking them off my boycott list.
They have multiple locations in the city, including 7047 N Clark in Rogers Park.

"Yum Thai" on Madison In Forrest Park.
The Trib did a nice write-up today on one of my neighborhood faves, Jimmy Jamm. Their ever-expanding menu is amazing: sweet potato pies with many different toppings, sweet potato ice cream, sandwiches on sweet potato bread, big honkin' sweet potatoes baked with a variety of toppings.... It's a temple to the sweet potato, one of the underappreciated highlights of the south side. If you're anywhere near 95th & Longwood, or you've got time to make a detour there, you'll enjoy the stop. Keep it in mind next time you ride the Major Taylor Trail.
