Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)

My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.

Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane

With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming

#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)

#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.

We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

After yesterday's snow fall, it appears that all over downtown, building maintaince crews all dumped their shoveled snow into the bike lanes. This was extremely bad around the Goodman Theater.

Also has anyone noticed the construction of a building on Milwaukee ave near Chicago where they have completely blocked off the bike lane with no signage dumping everyone into the traffic lane in front of parked cars? It is extremely dangerous.

Yes, I've noticed that. I'm trying to recall whether it's right at 695 N. Milwaukee, where there was a recent fire, or immediately north of there. Either way, you're right - there is no signage indicating "Bike lane closed ahead."

Busy in front of 1750-1746 N. Wells this morning at 8:45 am.

UIC Catering IL 366998D

Nice to know things haven't changed since I've been away for a week (snark).

I sent an email with the picture to UIC Catering and I got a reply from UIC catering, it is actually a UIC dining services vehicle. The director of UIC catering (who was very understanding of the problem this behavior presents) forwarded my email to the individual in charge of dining services.

Milwaukee northbound just south of Ogden/ Chicago Ave.

Sometimes the obstructions in a bike lane are only momentary, but if that moment happens to be right when you need the lane, and you're blocked in by a curb on one side and stationary cars on the other, there may not be too many options.

I wasn't properly a witness to this, but arrived to catch some of the aftermath before anything got moved - so I must not have been too far behind. Someone was already calling for an ambulance when I arrived.  I'm posting this in case here its useful to anyone involved. Everyone was up and moving around and talking. In the video you can see the cyclist had his light on blinkers and his shoe and bike stayed on one side of the car while he went over to the other side. I only stuck around until the fire truck arrived since there were actual witnesses present and the driver was still there. Its hard to see but the car's windshield was broken in two places.

Stay safe out there.

I hope the bicyclist involved is okay.

Sadly unsurprised by this. Drivers frequently turn across traffic lanes when the cars leave a gap for them to do so, without looking for other traffic - bikes - that may still be moving into the path of their turn.
