Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)
My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.
Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane
With popular hashtags:
#BikeLaneShaming
#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)
#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.
We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)

I finally had my fill, and called 311 this morning. They took down the information, and said that someone would contact me. They suggested that I call 911 on the spot, but I told them it's very likely that the vehicles would be gone before a patrol arrived. If I see a vehicle parked with no driver, I will certainly call 911.
Hopefully a few calls to 311 might get the ball started. Is there a contact person in city government that is the point person for bicyclists? With the recent emphasis on making the city bike friendly, I have to imagine there is someone that is interested in the problem.
What about the press? Is there a reporter that have covered bike related issues? 'Love to get a camera crew out during rush hour and put these dopes' faces on the 6 o'clock news.
If everyone here emailed and called local news outlets and asked for it, I bet they could run a story. Also a quick letter to the editor might create awareness for others, both people driving on bicycles and those who ride in their cars.
Its been an interesting week, one that makes me thankful that these minor transgressions of scofflaws are all I have to worry/complain about personally. At the same time, I think we could all do with taking a moment to think about how the world looks from someone else's perspective rather than just our own. perhaps because of all that's going on in the world, its been an above average week for strange things happening on my commute So, here were my highlights:
The only slack i'd cut is for the car broken down in the lane. The owner may be stuck and awaiting a tow. It's a sucky situation if the driver had no other option... (i've been broken down in a traffic lane once or twice and it's no fun for anyone.)
As for the rest... yeah no.
I was biking to work this morning, eastbound on Kinzie at LaSalle, and what did I see ahead? Why, a patrolman writing a ticket for a taxi stopped in the bike lane. I pulled up along side the officer, took off my gloves, and applauded. He smiled. We had a nice chat for a few minutes, and then I was on my way. 'Made my morning.
