The Chainlink

This evening on the way home from the grocery store, with 40lbs of groceries in my paniers, one of my crank arms cracked and fell off. I pedaled home slowly with one foot. I was contemplating putting my clipless pedals on my bike and biking to a bike shop, on my way to work, with one leg. Anyone ever try this?

I was on a ride once with a sort of coach having us do odd things around the Kettle area.

She had everyone ride one stretch of road (with a minor descent and then a minor climb) using only one pedal.

I found it darned near impossible.

Its been done, both as a training exercise and because of amputation.

I have.  I bought new pedals  last winter and I didn't attache them properly. This resulted in the threads being stripped.

On a very cold night I lost a pedal on the LFP. A nice guy helped me try and fix  it but no luck..the thread was shot. so I biked from Fullterton to Lawrence on one pedal. Then the other gave out at Lawrence so I walked my bike home.

So it can be done.

Saw a guy on the North Branch Trail this past summer who was missing a leg - AND CRUSHING IT - with one pedal. Less than ideal but definitely can be done

There used to be a one-legged guy in my area who worked the other pedal with a cane.

I had a crank arm fall off when the bolt loosened its self off without me knowing it, but I only had about 4 miles to go, just took me longer.  POST A PIC OF THE CRACKED CRANK ARM, THATD BE COOL TO SEE.  At least I like seeing pictures of busted bike parts.

I've done it more than once when a crank arm fell off.  It sucks but it can be done.  Plus it makes for a fun story.

This morning I biked with one leg to the bus stop and then from the stop to work, which wasn't bad at all. On lunch I stopped by Comrade Cycles and got it fixed while I ate lunch next door. Quick Winter Service

Definitely doable.  Did an entire L.A.T.E. Ride after I lost a pedal at the start.  Found it in the Lost & Found tent after the ride.  I've been very careful about applying proper torque on pedals since then.
