It was, what, fifty or so out this morning? Maybe a little below? I wore bike shorts, a t-shirt with a long sleeve over it, gloves, helmet... my muscles felt tight, my ears had sharp pains. Man, I guess I wasn't ready to ride this morning! I didn't consider fifty all that cool when I made the plan to ride at 5am this morning. It was just weird how my body reacted to the "cold". I guess I should be wearing more? Good grief.

is this your commute, or just a morning ride? how long did you end up staying out in it?
It's my morning ride... I went maybe 10 miles before I had to call it quits. I think I was out for a little over an hour.

When it gets cold, the first thing to go are my ears. Anything below 60 kills them! I have a fleece headband that covers my ears that I wear pretty much from now through May.
I can see why. They freaking hurt.

I sweat my a$$ off if someone even looks at me a little funny; needless to say I still managed to kick up quite a bit of perspiration during this morning's commute. I had a thin, longsleeved wool undershirt along with a wicking top layer, with normal shorts, etc. Damn these mutant sweat glands!
Sub 60 you should be considering knickers/knee warmers, arm warmers and possibly a vest---your joints don't get a lot of blood circulation being a lot of cartilage an all so they need a bit more protection. Obviously, you don't have to do this. Many people don't but I have a sneaking suspicion that they will be wondering where all their aches and pains come from in about 10 years. (Incidentally, I have a bunch of different arm/leg/knee warmers. The best and most comfortable--for me--tend to be the wool ones. Swobo pre-holy resurrection are my favs.)

Also if you're gonna be riding a lot in sub 60 weather (I'm assuming you are) you should def. check out some embrocation--think of it as vasoline that smells good and acts like a heating pad for your joints and makes your skin silky smooth!

I dunno about local embrocation manufacturers but Mad Alchemy (http://madalchemy.com/) out of Mass. is strongly recommended. Expensive but awesome. "4oz of prevention goes a long way." (you can shoot me for being stupid).
Love the smell of fall.

I had short sleeves, long pants, sandals, and regular cycling gloves on and was fine for my 8.5 mile commute, except for my toes which went numb. I'll have to wear socks next time.
This morning I just wore my normal shorts, a long sleeve wicking jersey, and a Pearl Izumi vest. Other than that, nothing special. Around 40 degrees I switch to a jacket from a vest, and below that, I add knickers. I carry light wool gloves to go over my cycling gloves just in case, but I normally don't need them until it gets below 50.

Wool is a fantastic material if you are looking for stuff- keeps you warm even while soaked with sweat...
You'll adapt. Seriously the first few chilly ride are a shock but I get over the ear thing and tight muscles in a few rides.

[People smarter than me have always suggested knee warmers <60 degrees. The skin at the kneecap is quite thin and exposes you to injury, etc. when it's not kept warm.]
Today is beautiful!

Started my ride to work at 10am. Had to make a pit-stop in Lincoln Square to arrange to have my truck towed (it's a wonderful thing to have your brake lines burst). Finally made it to Pilsen around 1.30

3.5 hours is about 2.5 hours too long for a 17 mile commute but I did manage to make friends with a truck driver on Elston--he let me draft from Fullerton to Division and did it with a finesse usually only seen on Japanese TV.

PS. I used arm warmers today.
my commute is about 4 miles and it wasn't too bad. legs were cold but that was about it. Damen is a warzone though... it's really sketchy in parts.

Bumpity bump bump for NTLBM..

I have not riden yet today.. How was your ride this morning?
My 5 mile commute was a breeze this morning. Should stay pretty dry this week and the temps won't get ridiculous.
