Chicago police have released description of hit and run driver that seriously injured cyclist

For some reason this terrible event has gotten little attention.  Let's change that.

CPD has released a description of the driver and a photo of his SUV.  More information here:  http://www.mybikeadvocate.com/2012/10/chicago-police-release-descri...

brendan - I agree. It's a shame this story is so much under the radar. I would like everyone that can

be on the lookout for that vehicle and driver. I have a hunch that that model of car having a sunroof

(and no roof rack (which are almost always mutually exclusive)) is pretty rare. I would like to think the

CPD has enhanced / enlarged to photo to try to get the plate number, etc.

In my experience, you can track down a security camera that has your entire hit-and-run on video, and CPD still won't do anything if the quality of the video is bad.

Really hope this person is identified, but not expecting much unfortunately.  Sad.

I put it out there on the CCC blog and will put it out on other channels in the next day or so.

We put it out on FB/Twitter (got some responses, retweets) and it's now been covered by NBC, ABC and Tribune. Definitely worth pushing, thanks Brendan!

I am rarely accused of being an optimist ;-)

I am thrilled that the word is getting out.  Even if the guy isn't caught it's pretty awesome to see folks mobilizing.

Thanks Brendan. I admire your optimism that the bike community will self-mobilize to get the word out about this...

Can people broadcast this to e-mail lists/Everyblock/etc.? I have very little time today.

I've just received an update on the condition of the bicyclist.  He's alive, but in bad shape in the hospital: http://www.mybikeadvocate.com/2012/10/chicago-bicyclist-critically-...

I'm sorry to hear that he suffered such serious injuries.  I hope that he's able to make a good recovery.

The bicyclist still has a long road toward recovery, Joe said.  He sustained a serious head injury and has endured at least 8 hours of brain surgery.  After the collision the injured man's condition was touch and go to the point that a priest was brought to his hospital bed to administer Last Rites.

This does not sound good. Here's hoping for an outcome better than complete dependence.
