I didn't see a discussion of this yet, but there was a CM ride in Aurora on Sunday and the news report actually seems positive.

Yes I took part. Good turn out with about 50 riders. It was a 15 mile ride down some of the busier streets in Aurora. The overall reaction from the public was positive with people waving and honking their car horns. Kid especially got a kick out of the big group rolling through. Next ride is October 31 on Sunday at Aurora West High School on Galena. A lot more festive and hopefully more riders.
The article had some laughably sad comments by typical cagers.
A great start! I'll definitely ride at the next one.
I read about it on Let's Go Ride a Bike - she's got lots of photos and a bit more commentary.
my recollection of aurora, the neighborhood around the university, many intersections did not have stop signs. so i'm sure it is not the very conducive environment for practical cycling -- getting from point A to point B efficiently.
the lady's (dottie) comment really shut down the haters, who probably is unemployed. good the know that the burbs are geting into the mix.
DuPage county seems like one of those places where people get in their cars to retrieve the mail from the ends of their driveways. While I enthusiastically defend people's freedom to do so, I also feel at liberty to mock them mercilessly for it. Aurora is a neat little city though.
FYI: Aurora is in Kane County, not DuPage.

As it was incorporated in 1845, some of the older sections of Aurora are still walkable, but you're right; recent development (i.e. in the last 40 years) has been entirely based on car culture.

Oops, you're right.

Very glad to see this, 50 is great! But I must point out that every other area CM is on a Friday.
There are purists even who'll argue that it must be to use the traditional name, or any ride could call itself a CM (maybe more should?).

Recently added KidicalMass was the first exception on our localmotions page.
That just can't work for Aurora?
We'll have to come up with a new alias for http://chicagocriticalmass.org/fridays

Happy {day_of_week}!
My suspicion that it was held on Sundays is that most drivers are passed out at home from a long weekend of partying, so it would be less of a clash with those stripmall couchpotatoe cagers trying to get to their next frolicking spot.
