Wilmette police this week are working to return 18 bicycles stolen from area Metra stations after arresting a Chicago man they say targeted high-end bikes to resell online.

Jeremy Miller, 27, of 3755 W. Shakespeare Ave., was charged with two counts of felony theft, possession of burglary tools and felony driving while suspended and revoked Oct. 27. He was held on $200,000 bond and is to appear in court today.

Police arrested Miller after an investigation of more than a dozen bike thefts from Wilmette's Metra station since spring. A different man was arrested and charged in a series of July thefts, but thefts resumed earlier this month. In each case, locks were cut.

In one of the recent thefts, a victim reported seeing a bike similar to his listed for sale on eBay, and police had already identified Miller as a suspect, said Deputy Wilmette Police Chief Brian King.

After winning an auction for one of the bikes, a detective arranged to meet Miller at a local shopping center, where he was arrested.

King said they recovered a large set of bolt cutters from his car and 18 bicycles at his Chicago residence.

Police believe the bicycles were stolen from several Metra stations, including River Grove, Edison Park and Park Ridge.
