Your guess seems sound, Clark. Gent looks like he was born in the 1800s, given the date of the photo. When he began dealing in bikes, did he know how long it would last? Gotta wonder.

We're not tied to the original but we began at that location. It's across the street and we look on that ceramic facade with humility. The history ties to other old businesses in our hood (including perhaps Fannie Mae)!

Yes, chixie, the date of the photograph is 1938.
As far as I know, John, the shop was originally named after the owner's son, and present owners continued the tradition.
