My name is Sam and I use the bicycle for both utilitarian and enjoyment purposes. Just did my longest solo cycle tour yet--Chicago to Chicago, clockwise around Lake Michigan--next time I'd like it if someone came with, anyone interested?
Most of the time I ride my old steel fixed gear, but I also have a Fuji Touring, and 90's diamondback road bike which I recently obtained for free that I'm building back up.
A writer, herbivore, and amateur triathlete. At this point I should be putting the word "amateur" before writer, too, but I won't. I keep a few blogs: wearetheengines.blogspot.com is a cycling blog (right now its just a tour blog), planteaterscollective.blogspot.com is a vegan cooking collective blog which I edit and contribute to, and sammyschild.blogspot.com is my personal blog where I put anything that isn't cycling or vegan cooking related.
Hopefully I'll be in a graduate writing program in Fall 2010, but for now I've been reduced to a blogger.
damn it, i saw your yellow fixed-gear in the intro thread, and i think i have some competition for the most accessorized fixed-gear in chicago! i thought i had it in the bag with my full fenders, rear rack, saddle bag, and bell, but you may have bested me with the bottle cage, u-lock holder, and lights (mine are mounted to my helmet). congratulations, good sir, you win—at least this round.
