The Forest Preserve District is voting on the bridge over the Metra tracks required for the southern extension of the North Branch Trail.

I highly suspect that the residents of Edgebrook are going to try to convince the board not to build the bridge. Thus, without drawing additional attention to the vote (and therefore more Edgebrook residents), we need to write in our support or testify in person during the next Forest Preserve board meeting next Tuesday, Sept 9.

If you wish to write support, here are the details:

Send an email to cookcounty.board@cookcountyil.gov with your testimony. Make it attention: Board Secretary

RE: Item # 14 0409 To construct and maintain a bicycle/pedestrian bridge over the Metra railroad, near Forest Glen Woods in the City of Chicago tracks near MP 11.0, between Devon and Foster Avenues, on Metra’s Milwaukee North Line.

You can also use the web contact form:  http://www.cookcountyil.gov/contact/

If you wish to testify in person, here is the link to sign up (unfortunately it is very far south instead of downtown): (Sagawau Environmental Learning Center,12545 West 111th Street, Lemont, Illinois)

http://fpdcc.com/about/board-meetings/

You can also contact John Fritchey, 12 District Representative on the board:

District Office
2539 N. Southport Ave.
Chicago, IL 60614
(p) 773-871-4000 (f) 773-423-0392

Let's not let this bridge get pushed aside or forgotten, like the Stone Bridge.  Send an email to cookcounty.board@cookcountyil.gov with your testimony. Make it attention: Board Secretary

Two of the Salt Creek Trail underpasses were flooded this past Sunday. One was west of Wolf Rd that goes under 294. The other was under Roosevelt Rd in between York Rd and Rt 83. The pic below was from under Roosevelt Rd.

I did ride to the park at 87th Street on Sunday morning.  I love how the south end of the LFP is so empty, and the farther south one goes the emptier it gets.  There was very little traffic on South Shore Drive, and even less on the South Lake Shore Drive extension.  The roads are so nicely paved--what a pleasure.  The park seemed to attract a lot of people just walking around the path and others walking dogs.  I really enjoyed my little jaunt.

Yes Lisa... When you go into the album you can click "photo details" you will then see a map of the picture. I used my phone to take the pictures, so it captured the GPS location. Enjoy!

Thank you, Tom Z.  Just what I was looking for.  The park looks a bit like urban ruins right now. :-)  Is it on the north side of the mouth of the Calumet River?

@Lisa Curcio... Once you get to the south-end of the LFP, you will ride on the S. South Shore Drive bike lane. This will take you straight to the new bike lanes. At 79th street you will make a slight left onto S. Lake Shore Drive.  Google maps does show the new road, but still doesn't have the bicycle lanes marked.

Here's a link to the Google Map:

https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=41.752377,-87.548139&...

I was down there on Monday and there were quite a few people riding bikes on the new bike lanes.

Here's a picture I took just before I left:

I took some pictures of a park while I was down there.

Here's a link to the pictures I took:

2013 1028 Lake Shore Drive Extension and local park

It looks like it will be a well used extension for bicycles and A nice park should be developing over the next few years.

Not really a trail, but I am wondering about the new Lake Shore Drive Extension and how it connects to the LFP.  I am thinking of riding down there some time this weekend just for the heck of it.  When I get to the end of the LFP is the connection to the extension going to be obvious?

Globalguy, feel free to start a new discussion on those trails, just follow the general format. I definitely don't know of all the trails in the area and rely on users to update this.

I would suggest Salt Creek Trail, both north and south, as well as North Branch Trail. These might be of assistance:
