does anyone have or know where i can obtain an old cone style expander nut/bolt for a quill stem? ive looked all over the place, even bought an old modolo stem off ebay(so i guess i have an Al cone) but the bolt was about an inch too short. i have a boatload of wedge type quill stems, only the threading on the aluminum cone is finer than youd find on a steel wedge. weird. i really want to use this nitto pearl stem that came with the frame and fork of the bike im building up, cause i dont want to spend $80 for a new one .

so basically what i need is a 6" expander bolt w/cone to fit it or a 6" bolt with fine threads to work with the Al cone i already have.

any help would be awesome!

the other alternative is to make one. A scrap chunk of metal, a drill, a tap of the thread of your bolt. a bench grinder, and a sacrificial bolt with your thread, with the head cut off. drill and tap the metal. insert with a jam nut, the sacrificial bolt. chuck it up in a electric drill. spin the peice and shape it on the bench grinder, to the appropriate size and shape. Aluminium cuts easy. always wear safty glasses. good luck.
thanks everyone.
