One of the Bad Monkeys lives in Atlantic.  He did some scouting and somehow he knows the pass through towns already.  Here's his report on Day 1.  143 days.

"Good afternoon, Monkeys - I got a sneek peek at the day one route from Glenwood to Atlantic, and its going to be a hilly bastard. But that's to be expected around these parts. Silver City, Treynor, Carson (mtg), and Griswold are pass-through towns. And the last town out will be Lewis, just eight miles SW of Atlantic. Like Marne, there's only one bar in town, but it's in a perfect ride location. In the interest of full disclosure, I was once the Mayor of Lewis. So you know their standards of "leadership" remain questionable at best."

Thanks Cameron for your swift and comprehensive evaluation of Shuttle Guy.

Shuttleguy is offering service from Amling's Cycles in Niles, IL to RAGBRAI - with baggage service during Ragbrai and back from Iowa.  They have various prices for you depending on whether you need their tents, etc.  Check it out here: http://www.shuttleguy.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=139

I haven't personally used their services, but they did operate last year and somebody might have a comment about them.

kelly - this is great and exciting. I will never forget last year on

day 4 or 5 (?) hitting 50mph on one of those massive downhills

after the monster climb.

My first RAGBRAI I found a couple who had converted a bus into a mobile unit with toilet/shower. Found them on RAGBRAI's forum. There are lots of others looking to make arrangements together. Check out the forum.

Second year, we used an RV of a friend who I met the previous RAGBRAI. You keep life long friends from this ride.

Third year, rented our own 12 pass. van wih cargo. This is the way to go!!

Larry G from c-link was going to take the train this year out there and ride back with us. He took his bike on there last year too. Message him for details.

@John, Last year I took the Greyhound bus out there and rented a car for the way back. The bus was decent, and I met a couple other RAGBRAIers on there. Also, your bike is free on greyhound if it's under 50 lbs (in a box).

I'm looking at taking Amtrak to Omaha this year. Does anyone know the bike policy on that line (looks like it'd be the California Zephyr)?
