Randonneuring Defined

Randonneuring: Randonneuring is long-distance unsupported endurance cycling. This style of riding is non-competitive in nature, and self-sufficiency is paramount. When riders participate in randonneuring events, they are part of a long tradition that goes back to the beginning of the sport of cycling in France and Italy. Friendly camaraderie, not competition, is the hallmark of randonneuring.

That`s all I need for now, thank you for the quick response!

We haven't established a firm deadline for submitting a route yet. If you were to get your route to me by May 1st, you would be in good shape. An exact cue sheet is not required. However, I would like to review your proposed route to make sure that it generally complies with the rules. Identifying the controls is necessary. (last year I approved most intermediate controls as "any business in town X" unless otherwise needed to prevent a shortcut). Hopefully, this addresses your questions. If not, feel free to follow up or check the RUSA website for detailed rules.

Hi Dan,

What is the deadline to submit a fleche route? Also, do we submit the exact route or the checkpoint locations?

A fleche sounds so awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed reading those ride reports.

This year's version of the Fleche will be very similar to last years. The finish will be at the Wintergreen Resort in Wisconsin Dells.  The Minnesota Randonneurs are really hoping that this event will become a fixture on the annual calendar of randonneurs in the Upper Midwest. The event will be featured in an article in the next issue of the RUSA magazine. I will be serving as Coordinator of the event this year and would be very excited to see lots of GLR riders participate in this fun and unique event. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Ilter,

One ride not on the GLR calendar is the midwestern fleche on May.17th. Here are links to a couple of ride reports from 2012.

A fleche is a 24-hour ride.

Thanks Eric!  I did not know the permanent cards are returned too.

Ilter there are some more "surprises" in the mail - from riding the Fox Valley Permanent 200K twice in 2012 and once in 2011!
