Bike Winter will be volunteering again with The Night Ministry, a social service non profit that helps homeless, run away and at risk youth, in East Lakeview on Thursday, Feb 10.  Volunteers (and funds) are needed Thursday as well as the night before to grocery shop and prepare the food packages.

Unlike other volunteer opportunities, we will be providing the food as well as manpower, so money and/or time are needed. The cost of the food should equal $250-$350.

We are looking for volunteers for 2 shifts:

Wednesday, Feb 9th (6:30-9 PM)  : 3-5 Volunteers - Purchase and Prepare Food. Exact time and location TBD.

Thursday, Feb 10th (7 - 10:30 PM) : 4-6 Volunteers -Orientation at The Night Ministry Offices at 3262 N Clark, then  on The Street with The Night Ministry Van a block away passing out food and talking to folks.

Please email me  and  include which shift or shifts you'd like to volunteer and/or if you'd like to contribute some funds.

The calendar event is here : http://www.thechainlink.org/events/bike-winter-volunteer-night-at

On the Street time commitment: 3.5 hours
Age: all members of the group must be age 21 or older

The winds were not too bad this morning. Complete skin coverage + layers is the only way to roll. If you haven't acquired a balaclava and ski goggles/glasses, do it now. Wind chills in the negatives combined with the speed of your bike will accelerate the frost bite process.

Stay safe!

Good morning!

I hope everyone's commute is safe no matter how you are getting around today. Keep wiggling those fingers and toes! Michael just rolled out into the arctic blast with a bandanna around his nose and Miguel snug in our bike trailer and I confess to not really looking forward to going out later to do pick up.

While today might not be the best for taking pictures, I just wanted to remind people to keep adding images (or links to photo albums) to: http://www.thechainlink.org/group/bikewinter/forum/topics/new-bike-...    There have already been some great events this year--would love to see some photos.

I will be working on the BW site most of Monday and the images are so helpful. A bunch of them made it into the presentation I did at the Cultural Center in December,  which is now online for people to use and modify for their own BW outreach: http://bikewinter.org/classtips  (link to ppt is in the page).

Best,

Gin

Great picture, Scott. I'm assuming you're stationary there.
