@Kelly - the author of the piece you linked to barely touches on power and batteries. This strikes me as an enormous omission.

Even a search for "speakers" will bring up more portable boombox like solutions that you can adhere to your bike when you want.

go to http://www.instructables.com and do a search for bike stereo or bike speakers.  There are tons of ideas of building your own integrated mini systems or huge PA and trailer bike stereos.

I just got a good deal on a wee 30W 12v integrated amplifier and a couple of 30W speakers, fixing to rig them soon and trying out an eight AA battery power source from radio shack. The only big question remaining is the speaker enclosure. I'll probably just do something with wood, but the possibilities of fiberglass are ridiculous and tantalizing.

I would like to equip my cargo bike with a sound system, but as I would have to transport it 44 miles just to get it to and from downtown, size, weight and storage are issues. Recently I have been looking at LIFePO4 batteries. What are the best options for a lightweight power system?

A good mobile sound system really adds to any bike event – both for riders and spectators. Today’s project uses high efficiency components to make a convenient 25 pound (10 kilogram) setup that mounts on any rear rack and gives those 150 pound (60 kilograms) sound trailers a run for their money...

I can still get about with my rig. I'll need to anyway to get the batts I'd bring home. If so, meeting you at the place and hauling your batts home first is easy.

I figured though that if the batteries needed carrying that might be hard on your back. Will they need carrying and if so, how far? Should I call TC?

One of my projects is going to be to build a stair climbing electric powered hand truck. But I won't be getting around to that for a while...

At 28 AH, I'd only need 3.

Hauling them would be no problem, but I broke my foot yesterday so I'm not in good shape for carrying them out. I could bring a dolly or a wagon that could be used to fetch the batteries from a building so long as no stairs are involved.

If stairs are involved, it's close to TC's neighborhood and he owes me a favor, so I expect I could arrange to get him to do the carrying.

I'd be able to use any where between 3 and 6. When/where would we go to pick them up?
