Chumrades, I took a couple of lovely rides this weekend, one on the Raleigh Roadster and one on the sturdy Kona Sutra.

Here's what struck me: The Kona could benefit from having its front wheel pushed waaay farther out front like the Raleigh's.

When I turn on with the Raleigh, I can keep pedaling without banging my toes into the front fender; not so no the Kona.

So, who knows enough about frames and forks and so on to give me some advice about whether or not I can or should put a stretched-out fork on the Kona?
4th Annual Indy Tweed Ride - 2 Nov 2013tag:thechainlink.org,2013-10-01:2211490:Topic:7598762013-10-01T15:00:44.973Zglobalguyhttps://thechainlink.org/profile/daSquareWheelman

i have a rescued circa-1970 Herc. 21" 3sp frame, basic weathered black finish. Crank & HS in place, front John Bull type brake, rusty remnants of both mudguards. Frame seems straight & uncrashed. How does $20 sound to you? i'm out in Palatine, but can arrange a meet or something tomorrow (Sunday) if you want it.

To members of the BBC who are attending this years 3ST, the start date is approximately seven weeks away and now is the time to maybe consider thinking about training. Cycle training should consist of riding less than a mile then stopping for not less than 20 minutes. This should be repeated at least once. Reasons for stopping should include, but not limited to, pastries, beer, lunch, beer, sightseeing, beer, photography, beer, discussing Sturmey Archer, beer, peeing, and scotch. Preferably a 12 year old single malt.

Training for pastries should consist of stopping at a local bakery and sampling their wares until you feel yourself worthy enough to down a maple and bacon doughnut. Practicing on Hostess products is considered bad form and will open you to heartless harassment.

Training for beer should consist of stopping at a public house, walking in and placing one foot on a brass rail and catching the eye of the publican. Order a Stout or a microbrew. Once your order has been delivered, place one hand around glass and lift towards mouth. Swallow. You cannot, I repeat, cannot practice this maneuver enough. Ordering a Lite Beer in the presence of another Nutter may result in the revocation of your Nutter status and much ridicule.

Scotch training should consist of purchasing a Scotch whisky without an 'e' and transferring a small amount to a flask. Take a swig from the bottle and then continue fill the flask. At certain times during the 3ST it is customary to take a swig and to then pass the flask to the person on your right. Or left if no one is on your right. If you are by yourself, take a second swig.

Lunch, sightseeing, photography, discussing Sturmey Archer and pee training......you are on your own.

Finally after a couple years of being without one I finally have not only the time but the bucks to get around to building another British tall bike which I am planning to ride the Manor and Meadow tour. I am turning to the BBC to help me track down all the parts I need to get this happening. I am willing to pay for stuff but I am obviously looking for cast offs, less than perfect and otherwise janky parts; I would actually prefer stuff that is a little worn and well weathered because it not only fits the look I want but I don;t feel as bad chopping it up. If you have any of the following rattling around your parts bins let me know and tell me how much you would like for it because I really want to have a tall bike back for this summer.

I could use the following:

-1 frame, the larger the better step-through frame would be great as well if it was a larger one. I only need the main triangle, it can have mangled seat or chain stays.

-1 fork, I am looking mostly for a Raleigh fork that has the round top crown on it.

-A set of peaked steel fenders.

-Chain guard.

-Three speed shifter, one of the older style ones.

-40 hole 26x 1 3/8 CR-18 rim.

-36 hole 26 x 1 3/8 CR-18 rim.

-40 hole 3 speed hub in good condition.

-Any kind of cool looking old saddle that is properly worn in.

-Clamp on roller, cable stop and guides for Sturmey cables.

-Crank set, I have one but would like spares as cottered cranks do not do the best on tall bikes. I would also like to find ones that have an interesting design.

-Brakes.

-Brake levers.

-Pedals.

-'Motorcycle' style kick stand like the one in the picture of the old tall bike; a regualr kick stand does not cut it when you're two stories tall.

-Very tall quill stem.

-Anything else weird and old you think might make a good edition to my lamp-lighter.

Thanks!

Hey folks, I gotta question for any Dynohub users out there. I have a '74 Superbe with a Dynohub sans lights and wiring, I am looking for suggestions on adapting a modern light set to the existing hub. I am not too concerned with the output difference, I can deal with slightly dim lamps. I noticed one gent with such a setup on one of the past Tweed Rides. Any info appreciated. Thanks.
