Is there no where else to stow your lock? Is in your back pocket or pinched in your belt really the only place it can be?
Any whats with your whole set of keys out in the open dangling off your pack? Could it not get caught on anything? What if you lose them? You remind me of the kids in HS who just HAD to let you know they had a car by always flipping their keys around.
Yes please do ride but with your no break fixies, the lock, the keys and the beard your making me feel old and I'm really not all that old.
I carry mine in my milk crate. The holder it came with broke years ago. I can't imagine carrying a lock on ones belt can be very comfortable.
Why does it matter where other people keep their lock and keys?
I carry a small u-lock in my pocket or belt when I am running errands because it is easy to get to. Same reason I keep my keys on clip on my belt, easy to get to.
I've never lost either.
Love a good thread like this, getting everyone all riled up...
Half-bike: U-lock & cable in the chrome bag. Takes 0.2seconds to pull it out and doesn't jump around when just the locks in the bag. Not sure why they would move around if the bag fits you.
Whole-bike (tandem): U-lock & cable in the kitty litter pail panier. Need to secure U-lock with the cable to the rack if nothing else in the pail, otherwise launch it over a speed bump. Generally not in a hurry riding the tandem and so quick lock access is not a priority.
Per the OP, the issue is the perceived "look at me" motivation of this certain type of rider. These riders seem to be sacrificing functionality for the sake of showing the world they ride a bike.... while actually riding a bike. If true, that behavior deserves a bit a criticism.

That's ... quite the interpretation.
Did not mean to hit nerves, apologies.
Yesterday I saw a guy tucking his lock between his pants and underwear, I have seen locks in back pockets, tucked into belts and attached with the snaps to the messenger bag and once locked to the belt. I either throw them (I have 2) over my handle bars or in a front basket. Either place and you don't have to worry about them. For the keys have seen them hanging off of bags or handle bars. I toss them in my bag never had a problem.
Keep riding and have your locks and keys how ever works for you.
I ride this way because I'm COOL!
I wish we could all ride wrecklessly without any breaks.
I don't want anyone to break anything either...
