Share your pics, videos, streets, stories of what you find in the bike lane of the non-bike variety that has an impact on your ride and/or your safety. I've decided to keep it a little more open ended - cars, snow, buses, garbage, cabs, etc. If they shouldn't be in the bike lane, go ahead and add it to this thread. Please be safe if you are taking pics or video! :-)
My hope is that we can collectively build some evidence of what we see when riding in the city with the overall hope of better enforcement of "bikes only" and improving maintenance.
Update: More Hashtags to Capture Vehicles in the Bike Lane
With popular hashtags:
#LaneSpreading (Chicago Bike Selling)
#ClearTheWay (ActiveTrans), there are many options to capture violations.
We think you should use ALL of them AND post your photos on The Chainlink. ;-)
I think it's time to consider a large orange sticker on the driver's side window.
Please word it politely - as much this person is repeatedly being rude an insensitive to us, they probably don't see themselves as a villian. The goal is not to threaten or scare them as cathartic as that might be, but to educate and enlighten them and change their behavior. I'm Gopher Biker's 'MNice' will shine through... perhaps: "Dear sir or madame, When a car parks out over the marked bicycle traffic lane lines, it means that I must to merge out into the other traffic lane to pass. This maneuver puts me in danger. I would appreciate it if you would take more care when parking in the future."
"It's illegal to park in a bike lane. Next time I call 911 and have the vehicle towed. This is your final warning".
Maybe a printout of pics of the car with a note saying "311 report filed."
My personal bete noir is 210 S DesPlaines. When I told the Rav4 driver she was in a bike lane, she gave me a half-hearted "sorry, I didn't know" and then bitched on the phone that she just got called out for parking in a bike lane.
